v2023 Upgrade Issues

  • 1.  v2023 Upgrade Issues

    Posted 05-03-2023 19:55

3 independent sources report the following:

Crystal Runtime did not install with workstation installs, so no reports would print.
The fix is to go to Wksetup > Prerequisites > CrystalRuntime folder and run the .msi file manually.

Also for Fixed Assets 2023 installing with Sage 100 v2022 or below, FAS 2023 uses Crystal 20, which is an issue for Sage 100. I was told not to install the Fixed Assets 2023 in this case.

John, I think you are saying these are two separate issues - the Fixed Assets v2023 install seems to conflict with Sage 100 2022 or earlier due to the FA use of Crystal 2020.

Also, read through the upgrade checklist if you usually skip.  I thought # 11 of the upgrading from 2022 to 2023 was interesting.
    11. If Sage 100 2023 is installed on the same computer as an earlier version of Sage 100, complete this step to avoid errors when printing forms and reports in the earlier version:  Copy the pvxwin32.exe.config file from the ..\MAS90\Home folder in your 2022 installation to the same folder in your 2023 installation. You must complete this step on both the server and the workstation.

Guess I am going slowly this time around.  With new version of Crystal that may not play well with others, a new Amyuni driver and the temptation to jump into the 64 bit water, I am starting with the BLS system first.

BTW, with the new Amyuni driver (AND differnt device printer name), can you delete the previous one (will the new driver work in pre 2023 versions)?

The new Paperless print object is likely so installing the new version doesn't break Paperless for the older versions.  Smart.

Interesting.  On day 1 I installed v2023 on a test machine (having multiple older versions already installed) and had no issues with printing at all.  (After the Sage 100 v2023 install I can print from v2021, 2019, 2017, 2015... all Standard, all 32-bit).
I saw the prompt that the new CR engine was being installed, but I don't know if it was successful.  (This machine doesn't have SFA).
I believe there are issues with Crystal Reports engine 32-bit vs 64-bit not being cross compatible, so maybe that's what you ran into?
Are those 3 independent sources all trying out 64-bit at the same time?

NEVER MIND!!!!!  After migrating, be sure to check role maintenance for new security permissions!!!!!!!!!!  Another 45 minutes of non productive time.....

Trying to access 1099 fields in AP Vendor maintenance.  Fields are "locked" and I am unable to access.  Since I had screen modifications, I disabled those and tried again.  Crickets.  I verified 1099 was on in Option set up.  Turned it off.  Saved.  Re-enabled.  Crickets.  Changed 1099 year to current.  Nothing.  Works fine in v2022.  I rebuilt the custom panels in CO.

Can someone test and let me know if it works or is this a bug?

Argh, apparently the Sage 100 v2023 Service names have changed for some reason! πŸ™„  Why does Sage do things like this?!  I heard about this from another Consultant; haven't yet seen it first-hand.

    - Advanced says "Standard"
    - Premium says "Advanced"
    - And I guess Standard is now "StandAlone/LAN"

    Suggestion ( Small / Medium / Large options )

    Small:

    • Create a shareable master document where everyone who has the link can see the document
    • Create links off this screen to additional documents ( so there's only one spot to check )

    Medium:

    • Post the above document to an email alert

    Large

    • Have users obtain paid Google Workspace account ( $144/yr) to actively participate in edits/maintenance
    • This could always been reimbursed if the user is active for a period of time

I am not successful enough searching Higher Logic to think that HL or a mass email chain will be enough

So the big question (based on the round table discussion today) is SHOULD we be installing 64 bit Sage as a default?  What are the downsides?  It didn't sound like @Beth Bowers & @Jeff Fiddelman are experiencing any.  Sage Intelligence issues?  What about Starship and the myriad of other enhancements?  I recall Beth having issues with the Avalara 64 DLLs(?) last year.  Resolved?  Any push back about not being able to use the old 32 bit versions of Sage?

@Jeff Schwenk - I know what they say about not being able to run the 32 bit versions BUT on my machine I am running 2023 in 64 bit and all of the older versions in 32 bit and I can get into each one of them.

My issue with the first release of 64 bit was actually a few of the DSD mod installers (specifically Instadocs).  They have since fixed that.

My upgrades have been pretty vanilla so far, but I keep asking the 3rd parties and they all say no issue with 64 bit.  I will have one with Starship tomorrow but I don't believe I've had a Scanco yet, but I'm planning on this being my go to from now on.  Too many clients have been upgrading their workstations to Win 11.

ALSO, I have a couple of installs I did a few months ago and I've gone back and run the 32-64 switch utility and had no issues there, either.  Did not have to rerun Wksetup - client saw the Updating come up but did not have to reinstall everywhere.

I asked during the call about 32-bit and 64-bit being able to co-exist on the same server.  Elliott said he'd look into it.

For a lot of our upgrades we do a test migration, meaning we are basically forced to 32-bit (so the old version is not broken by the new version install).

Sage wants to push 64-bit, and while the list of issues is shrinking, the technical hurdles are not all gone yet.

I know, but I'd also have to change the service... and if the old version is still online (for reference), that could break it.

Scheduled VI jobs in batch files: update from pvxwin32.exe to pvxwin64.exe...

Lots of little extra little re-work details, for questionable gains.

Changing later (if encountering the Win11 issue) is just as easy then.

Has Sage issued a bug fix for the Win 11 / 32 bit issue yet?  This is an important issue for customers.  Changing to 64 bit is not a good answer as many users have multiple third party apps that can be affected.

@Kevin Moyes - I heard him say "deep in the core" and something to the effect that it was best (easiest) just to run the 64 OS to solve the problem.  I tend to think that they COULD fix it but why not just tell WIN 11 users to run 64 OS.  Plus, IT departments buy into the 64 spiel very easily.  Yes, it is time we start moving in that direction, but I don't think Sage has any idea of the gotchas coming down the pike.  To paraphrase the old adage- "The RESELLER needs to be aware!"

This just in from a client I am migrating from 2020 PVX to 2023 SQL and is using DOCLINK.  Note the statement regarding 32 bit only!!!!!!!!!

    Hi Ted,

Please see the attached documentation related to your server move. Professional Services recommends assistance on the ProvideX to SQL migration specifically.

    IMPORTANT NOTES

The DocLink integration is only supported with Sage 100 ERP 32-bit.

Also, it is our policy that any client attempting to perform DocLink version updates, or DocLink version upgrades, or DocLink server moves and issues are encountered after their self-performed attempts at such activities, this defaults to triggering a project with Professional Services, rather than assisting through Support.

And how can multiple meetings with development where the question is asked (in different ways) about 32-bit compatibility issues be met with Sage shrugs? I now return you to your regularly schedule programs already in progress - "who cares until and unless it happens to me and then I'll post a group wide message on a Sunday at 9pm".

Ridiculous.  The options are abandon Doclink and install 64 bit, or install 32 bit with Doclink and wait for the daily support calls because the DTR is locking up on the Win 11 computers.
