Credit Card "Convenience" Fees

What's the best way to charge a customer a 3% convenience fee for using a credit card?  The end user has Fortis as the credit card processor.  Is there a way a 3% charge can automatically be added to the Sales Order invoice?

@Doug Higgs, I would have sworn there was a thread on this recently started by @Wayne Schulz, but of course with my superior searching skills, I can't find it.

Yes.  I remember something about which states can't charge a fee.  i am hoping someone can provide a process that can be used.  Of course a miscellaneous item charge could be added during data entry.  The end user is looking for something more automated if it exists.

Damn it, @Wayne Schulz - my inability to find anything in the Sage world (on here or in Sage's KB) just irritates the heck right out of me.  Now I know how my husband feels when he's trying to find something and can't and I find it right away.

It sucks being on the wrong side of "Let me Google that for you".

FYI - I am pretty certain EBiz Charge has the capability to include the 3% on their processing side and use the fee to offset their monthly costs.

Thanks @Gary Feldman .  That's good to know.  This customer currently uses Fortis however, they are a former Paya customer and are open to changes.  Always good to have options!

DSD has an enhancement that does this.

Correct, @Jacqueline Hoyte, SOPT - S/O Surcharge by Payment Type.  However, as per Wayne's recent article in our Content Library, there's an important issue to consider when using the DSD feature, especially for emailed invoices that customers can pay online (click-to-pay invoices). Here's the problem:

You want to add the extra card fee to the invoice before sending it. But with click-to-pay invoices, you don't know how the customer will pay. They might use a card or mail a check. If they mail a check, you'll need to remove the extra fee.

Fortis (the payment software) is working to fix this. Nuvei ( formerly Paya says they can handle this). For all others, one possible solution would be:

    ·         Add the card fee automatically when someone pays online

    ·         Update Sage 100 to handle these fees correctly

    ·         Let businesses set up their fee percentage and which account tracks these fees
