"AddressLocationType: ShipTo" in SO Invoicing

  • 1.  "AddressLocationType: ShipTo" in SO Invoicing

    Posted 01-31-2025 12:49

I have a client reporting an issue with a Starship write-back error message of "AddressLocationType: ShipTo" on multiple shipments today, and I can see that same pop-up when accessing the invoices from Sage 100 Invoice Data Entry. I don't see any field with that name within the SO_InvoiceHeader or SO_InvoiceDetail tables but my guess is that it's related to Avatax. Also, V-Tech responded to the client with this a little bit ago: "We had a couple other customers report this as well. Unfortunately, this issue seems to be solely on the Sage end. You can confirm by attempting to create an invoice from an old SO in Sage's Shipping Data Entry module."

Is anyone else experiencing this today?

I'm seeing the exact same thing at two clients right now.  Something is going with Avatax I think as they both have it.    When you say solely on the Sage end do you mean Avatax?

Yes, V-Technologies let my client know that the error was not related to Starship, that it was coming from Sage. I see Kevin Moyes just linked some articles, and Wayne has reported this too under a different post. We've got about three different strings going now :D I will have my Avalara consultants see if they can find anyone to help.

I had a client report this early this morning and it only happens when the tax schedule is set to AVATAX (or whatever is configured in the Avatax Configuration).

I checked for columns, methods, properties, etc that might be related and couldn't find anything.

What I did observe is the message pops up ONCE when you first click Accept, if you click Accept again, it saves without issue.  This is breaking integrations that create invoices though, such as StarShip and ScanForce because they reject or fail when the Write method fails the first time and Avatax sets that message into both the LastErrorNum and LastErrorMsg properties of the business object.

I couldn't find anything online for this either so I recommended the client to open a case directly with Avalara.

When trying to post invoices are client is seeing issues on some.  Two have tried and receive "Tax Structure errors were found in the following invoices" in a tax error report.  I'm going to go into SO_InvoiceHeader and edit the InvalidTaxCalc$ to N and see if that helps.

An obscure problem I've experienced in the past is that one of the line items had their TaxClass field cleared, and when I assigned that the tax structure error went away.  I'm not 100% sure what the error message I received was, but I think it was the same as reported here.

    Further observation:

    1. Customer reports that this error does not happen for all orders ( even when the other order IS using the AVATAX tax schedule ). I have not viewed this myself and am passing along the customer feedback.

Appears to have started this morning 1/31/2025

In one instance the customer has a generic customer number (used for marketplace orders)  where the ship to is always changed. In this instance they report the error always occurs. Perhaps the issue is on orders where the shipto changes at time of Shipping Data Entry?

Per Avalara, they are aware of the issue and are working on it. I will provide another update ASAP.

One of our Avalara clients reporting the same thing. You can get around it during entry, but then going to post it gives a "Tax Structure Error" that needs the DFDM fix to change the InvalidTaxCalc from Y to N.

Thanks @Amber Prayfrock for the update from Avalara.

Yes, I just had to edit about 10 or so invoices for a client where the InvalidTaxCalc field was set to Y; changed to N.  Invoices had TAX ERROR in total section.

I just wanted to pass on that the DSD Enhancement team is aware of this issue, and it seems to be related to the Avalara Portal not the Avatax in Sage100 program.   You should reach out to Avalara Support and start a Case Number.

FYI - Sage has this in their KB which reads

"AddressLocationType: ShipTo" message appears in Shipping Data Entry

Created on  | Last modified on

    Summary

" AddressLocationType:ShipTo " and " AddressLocationType:ShipFrom " message pops up when attempting to Invoice Sales order in Shipping Data Entry

    Resolution

Avalara has acknowledged an issue as of 1/31/2025 1:45pm EST.  Further updates on a fix is forthcoming.
    Additional details:
    • It does not happen on ALL orders ( even when those orders have the AVATAX sales tax schedule)
    • You can click "ok" and get by it but that seems to preclude the data from passing to any third party solutions like StarShip and possible WMS
    • Reportedly this can be tested by changing the tax schedule from AVATAX to another tax schedule an observe that the order processes
    • Reported on Sage Community Hub under General Discussion and another under Distribution, Manufacturing, and Applications group.

I heard from a client that Avalara fixed the problem.  Waiting for confirmation from several other affected clients.
