  • 1.  Yet Another Q on v2019 PR tax deduction Rules.

    Posted 10-17-2019 13:46
Client set up (they claim I assisted..) a couple years ago for a life insurance deduction that was totally pre tax.  See below for v2017 deduction set up.

Now I am trying to convert their PR to 2019 and I am puzzled as to what tax deduction rule I should use?  Is there one that is completely pretax?  Can you create your own tax rule??  I am still stymied with the tax code look up.  All I can get to display is the tax rule.  Where is the definition?  It is almost as if the person who wrote the MAS 90 user manuals got the gig writing the tax rule help.  Worthless!  But then, maybe I am just not looking under the right rock.

Also, can someone confirm which deduction tax rules to use with Health Flex Savings  and Dependent Flex Savings deductions?

    TIA

-805158 Section 125 EE Deduction should work.

    Mary Jo,

For which one?  The life insurance pre tax dilemma or the two flex deductions or all three?

IS there a spot where you can get REAL help besides the murky code descriptions?

Sorry - I missed the line RE: the Health Flex and Dependent Flex.  for the Health Flex I would use -805082 if it's pretax.  If it's after tax I would use Select that as the tax rule.  Click the binoculars.  Select your Tax Profile in the Tax Rule Inquiry window.  You should see your Deduction Tax Rule on the right side of the window.  Single click it and click the binoculars.  It'll list the taxes that are going to be either calculated or ignored.  For deductions, a red means it's going to ignore that tax.

For the Dependent Flex Savings, -805074 is pretax.

They made this WAY more complicated than it needs to be.  Since the tax ramifications are the same, they could have gone with a way shorter list and made descriptions more generic.
