year end with PR 2.0 2018/2019

Not sure if I can explain this clearly...The app is being touted as being able to run payroll in a new period/year without first closing in the current period/year.  The settings for YTD amounts for deductions do not get reset unless you do a year end.  So processing in period 1 of the new year will lead to incorrect YTD on those deductions unless the year is closed.  Can you close the year in the live company in order to reset the deductions and still run all the required reports for year end?  Or Do you still have to make a copy of the company because of this?

I think any report you need lets you choose Year and sometimes Period now.  You can close and forge on ahead.

so you still need to close the year in 2019 before processing the first payroll in 2020,  But performing the year end will not have negative consequences for generating the quarterly and year-end reports and filing.

I thought the deductions were ok if you did not close.  I know earnings are ok.   I could be wrong.

However, failing to close the year end before processing your next year's payroll will lead to problems with accruing time off due to carryovers and other limitations.  It doesn't have the buckets to keep track of this year/next year like other places in the program.

And I think there are issues with the YTD Direct Deposit amount

This has potential for a hornet's nest.  I have clients that need to run the 2020 PR for 1/2 and 1/3 dates.  They also have 2019 3rd party sick pay that they may not know about until AFTER the 3rd.  Should we reach out to the Sage PR team for clarification?

@Jeff Schwenk, I would say yes.  Sooner the better if you know who to contact.  Are there any negative impacts for running period end before reports are finalaized? Because  YTD Direct Deposits, benefit accruals, deductions...anything that is supposed to reset at year end needs to show the correct YTD values in PP1 of new year.

    Good catch Alan!

I expected this would work fine, but as I dig around, Tom appears to be correct that while it can put the detail by period, there is no place to store limits, etc by year!

Payroll is now 'date senstive' so any report that runs by date can be run without a close and inlcudes W-2s .  You DO have to close for deductions and time off accrual to reset. Sage will be posting a doc on PR year-end but that's the jest in the meantime.

About 3rd Party Sick Pay, see the attached.

    Some feedback from Sage.

You do need to close because of deductions and time off accruals. What's important is that you aren't stopped from doing anything for the prior year such as W-2s or reports or whatever. That's what is really important!

Even if year-end has been done, you can enter in checks with a 2019 check date to get the information into the employee record for their W-2.

I would also recommend that a copy of the v2019 PR prior to closing just in case smelly stuff gets caught in the fan.  Updated KB on 3rd party sick pay handling is attached.

OOPSS - ignore the attachment.  It appears to be outdated.  I would delete it but there doesn't seem to be a way to delete the attachment or the entire thread!!!!
