  • 1.  Workstation Synchronization Suddenly decides to run for all users

    Posted 11-02-2021 15:26

I have a Sage 100 premium client with about 60 users that emailed just now and asked "did you guys install something?" Every workstation (even users already logged into Sage 100) got a pop up that started running workstation synchronization. It started around 1:00 pm.  I checked the activity log and nothing at all there except users logging in and records indicating a V/I job was run for receipt of goods.  Rebuild sort files for A/P was run early in the morning, but that runs every morning. There is nothing at all out of the ordinary. To make things worse at this client, users don't have rights to install, and the sync is asking for admin rights but once IT logs in and lets it finish all seems fine (for now).

Has anyone ever seen this? Since I don't know what caused it, it makes me wonder if it might happen again?

Look for changes in \MAS90\Home\Lib\_Updater\... on the server.  I believe that is what technically triggers the auto-update for workstations.

I looked there and all the file dates are old except a file called Autoupdate.log.  I opened it to look in DFDM and it has about 1.3 million records in it. but I'm not sure what to look for.

This is a mystery to me

We are still troubleshooting there was an auto update of their registration keys and the sync messages mention a payroll update and they do not own payroll.

More to follow as we continue to investigate.

I'm mostly curious if and how a workstation sync kicked off for a user who was already in Sage.

There are probably several ways that the sync would be queued up to kick-off - including loading a PU.

I haven't seen where the sync kicks off while a user is still in Sage.

    Curious.

I was connected to the controller and watching; he was logged into Sage 100 and if he tried to launch any task, the sync would kick off. Since he did not have local admin rights on his workstation to finish the sync it would not finish – once IT support came over and let it run and complete he was OK to continue. That is strange.  I wonder if it was the automated keys refresh, and the auto-updater trying to push out the new activate.pvx file to workstations as soon as it was used.

    An update on this.

The problem never happened again so we did not find anything conclusive. We noticed that the SY_Module table had all the records for one company code corrupted and we manually replaced those records in DFDM. It was a company used for testing and it had been refreshed recently; possibly the night before this started. We are not sure if that was the culprit but that table does have fields related to version.
