Workstation sync hanging - v2018 Advanced on 2016 T/S

  • 1.  Workstation sync hanging - v2018 Advanced on 2016 T/S

    Client IT reporting the issue.  He is installing new 2016 terminal servers in the client Sage 100 2018 Advanced environment, and is launching the program for the first time (logged in as admin). 

    He reports that he has done the following:
    No AV installed yet.  
    No ports blocked
    Full permissions to Sage folder on server and on the local machine.
    Disabled UAC during workstation setup
    Install as admin; no problem installing prerequisites

    He gets the Workstation Sync screen when he launches the client, and it hangs while reporting "Updating definitions and software".
    Any other suggestions of things that might be at play?

    Has he given it 10 to 15 minutes?  I've had it take that long on some virtual servers in data centers.

    My notes from a Sage 100 Premium which recently had this although the Sync didn't hang <g class="gr_ gr_106 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar replaceWithoutSep" id="106" data-gr-id="106">but</g> it would appear to complete and then the next time they logged in it started sync all over again (like groundhog day).


    In one situation on a Windows 10 machine for Sage 100 2018 Premium, the workstation synchronization would not finalize. It went through two cycles then no error message. It just appeared to finish. Yet when I clicked to start Sage 100 again the sync again started up and appeared to complete but without Sage 100 automatically starting.

    We immediately expected user rights to be the problem. The IT person looked at this for quite some time.

    Ultimately they were only able to fix this by turning UAC back ON (it was off) and after that, the Sync would then complete with a prompt about whether to change the registry (or some type of update that needed an acknowledgment).

    No love yet after passing on your suggestions.  He let the sync run for 4 hrs.  Any more thoughts before involving Sage?

    Try to run it in MAS90 mode to let it Sync and finish.  I had this happen and seems to me this was the resolution.  It's also a KB article.

    Took me a while to find it too.  Wasn't obvious.  I do believe this is the resolution I did when it happened to me.  I think I had to go through Sage though to get it figured out.  Good Luck.

    Are they using 2 servers? 
    One for the Sage app server and the other as the RDSH? If so, is the sync working if ran on the app server? 

    What about trying to change the Compatibility Mode. I've had no problems running 2018 Adv out of the box on 2016, but just in case there's something else at play, that option might help. 

    Even with UAC being off, have they tried to "Run As Administrator"? 

    Is DEP turned off?

    Did he run the installer from the sage UNC path? Or the physical sage wksetup? If the the former, are the share permissions set to full access? 

    finally, have they tried to do a full client uninstall, and reinstall if the client?
