Wouldn't this have been a perfect business for Sage to get into ? If most of your customers are forced to collect sales tax (as I suspect they will be) why not take a piece of every transaction? Perhaps the biggest reason that Sage didn't enter this area is their global view which I think blinds them to more opportunities than it exposes them to.

One of the things I ran into years ago while researching open source ERPs was tax handling, and when I showed them all the jurisdictions we have to deal with here they all thought we are out of our bleeping minds...

Intuit will probably get into this. The complexity is what makes it a great business. It's too complex for people with significant transactions to DIY although I think 90% take their chances and are only willing to pony up the fees upon audit with significant financial penalty.

For anyone that did buy into Avalara, I wouldn't hold it too long. They will soon have competition they are not prepared for.

Sage is already in this business. Their arrangement with Avalara requires payments on invoices that Avalara doesn't charge other ERP customers.

Avalara works with QuickBooks too. If it hadn't broken all the Sage 100 environments i put it into, I'd sell it to everybody. And in both cases, someone at Avalara told me they were goign to own this and get to the bottom of it, followed by crickets...and both customers asked me to remove it in the end.

What happened with having Avalara installed @RhondaMcNamara ?

It broke SO for both clients. In one case, broke a functionality that had existed, and in another, it royally messed up SO lines. They never resolved either issue.
