Windows Datacenter ServerWe have a prospect (to b

Windows Datacenter Server We have a prospect (to be licensing Sage 100 ERP 2015) that will have Datacenter Server with Windows Server 2012 Enterprise, and this will be running on AWS. The SPM does not list Enterprise, only Standard, although this is only how it is licensed. The SPM also states that Datacenter server is not supported. Any experience with any of this, and will it work? Sage is having a difficult time finding anyone to even address the questions, and these are only 2 of 6. TIA

@JohnHoyt, I'm not positive but I may have a customer set up using replication. This is typically why someone would deploy Datacenter. I have an email out to them to confirm. I will let you know if I hear back from them. If by AWS you mean Amazon Web Services, I can confirm they are not using AWS.

@ShawnSlavin Thanks. Yes, it is Amazon. They will have a SQL farm, hence the Datacenter. Sage 100 is obviously a small part of this.

@JohnHoyt I'm sorry but no love. They are running SQL 2012 Standard. Their fault tolerance is provided by mirroring in their SAN array. They mirror to an off-site array in another state. I thought I remembered them having a mirrored arrangement but thought it was through SQL. Sorry for the false start.

Thanks for trying @ShawnSlavin . It seems I am dealing with a case of ""IT guys gone wild"" here, as in ""wouldn't THIS be cool!

That has been known to leave a mark! Just don't get caught in the scrum. #DarwinAwardsLive!

Starting with Windows Server 2012 and up, Standard and Datacenter are actually the same code/feature-wise. The only difference is in how VM licensing is handled (Standard gets you 1 physical and 2 virtual servers, Datacenter gets you 1 physical and unlimited virtual servers). It's not on the SPM, but it'll probably work just fine.

What @SteveIwanowski said. We talked about this last week too - https://90minds-com.socialcast.com/messages/24592219 Sage hasn't tested Datacenter since Server 2003 when was a different animal and it legitimately wasn't supported. For Datacenter on Server 2012, I researched it as okay in last 6 months for 2 clients going to 2014. In short you should be okay.

Thanks, all, for you assistance in this. I finally received an e-mail late today from Deborah Nelson with the answers, and they are in agreement with your comments, with the normal caveats to protect themselves, of course. To validate how valuable 90 Minds is, I am confident I can get the correct answers here and not bother with Sage, especially since it takes much longer for them to answer. It's kind of telling that the Product Manager for Sage 100 had to coordinate getting the answers together, because Sage no longer has an appropriate structure remaining in Irvine to field these types of questions. Remember this was pre-sales, and they used to have at least two technical people dedicated to this.

@AlnoorCassim, are you still feeling good about Datacenter with version 2018?

Windows Server 2016 Datacenter is actually different than Standard edition. The licensing I mentioned above still applies, but there are additional Storage and Hyper-V features in Datacenter. There's a nice feature chart here: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/ausoemteam/2017/03/03/comparison-of-standard-and-datacenter-editions-of-windows-server-2016/

Thanks @SteveIwanowski! Have you run into any issues with 2016 Datacenter and Sage 100? I know that Sage doesn't support it but I'm thinking it's for the same reason Alnoor describes...they are just too lazy to test it.

I don't think we have any 2016 Datacenter out there yet; 2012 R2 worked OK, so I'm of the same mind as you and Alnoor (it'll probably be fine).
