    Hi everyone

we are about to start an upgrade from 3.54 to Sage 100 2019 Advanced and found out the client has:

They are on Windows Server 2008 R2 - Foundation. The platform matrix only says "Standard or Enterprise" are supported.

Does any one have any thoughts  if the foundation version is supported?

I would stay away from 2008 R2 - I think Foundation refers to a version pre-installed on certain servers. It sounds like it was for very small user count environments.

And while 2008 R2 is technically supported - that support vanishes in January 2020 when Microsoft drops support for 2008 R2.

Thanks Wayne – they do only have 4 users.

Are there any reasons that you can think of to stay away from R2?

I always thought R2 was the one to make sure was installed.

    Thank you,

    Howdy, Doug!
2008 anything is a really old server OS.  I would strongly recommend they upgrade their server (both hardware and OS)  to at least 2016.  Sage 2018 would be having problems on 2008 R2 foundation, Sage 2019 will definitely will also, because it uses TLS 1.2, and 2008 R2 Foundation won't support that without patches that may or may not work.  On top of which (as Wayne pointed out) Microsoft will be discontinuing support next year.

I agree with Bob and Wayne. Although 2016 server is a major change from 2008, there is a reason for that change. Where in the old days it was a ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it mentality’, all of IT has really moved to continuous patching and 2008 is going to fall victim to not having the proper security.
