While it always boggles me that I have to tell IT to turn off UAC on W7 or W2008 (and where to find UAC), in the last week, I have heard the statement below twice and not sure what to make of it. First time I didn't have much confidence in the IT person anyway so just told her where UAC was, but the second time, I actually do have confidence in this IT person/group and now not so sure. The Statement is in response to my statement: ""Please be sure UAC is turned off on the server and server rebooted prior to me starting the upgrade"". Response: ""That should be taken care of in Active Directory"". I don't know enough about UAC and Active Directory to know if that's a valid response, but told IT to turn it off anyway and will be checking it before I start the upgrade. Does Active Directory settings take care of UAC?

It is possible to configure UAC through group policy settings (often referred to as GPO's). These are the policies that can define printers, map network drives, set standard backgrounds, lock down browsers, and many other things. The group policy settings are defined, managed, and enforced via Active Directory so it is possible they are managing UAC through Active Directory. Best regards, Chris

turning off UAC doesn't always stop the message that pops up when running mas applications, if that is the objective. I have attached the surefire way to stop that.
