Many moons ago, when paperless first came out, the move button kept blowing up when I tried to move MANY files (still does). My work around then was to move the files via windows explorer to the new folder. I then used the paperless move button to move the non existent file. This seemed to work.
Following are a couple posts from back in the day. The first is an official method from Sage. The second is what I just described above that worked for me.

Moving Paperless Office Files
FWIW, I received the following last year from Extended Solutions.
Not sure if it is helpful to you but it worked for us.
When MAS90 / MAS200 data is copied from one server to another (or an upgrade takes place) the SY_PDL (LM-1018) and the SY_PEL (LM-1020) files should be copied to the new location. (The SY_PDF file contains the directory settings can be copied too). The SY_PDL is the list of previously created PDF documents. After starting MAS90 on the new server, previous Paperless PDF documents can be viewed using the Global Viewer by choosing 'Library Master\Paperless\View Journals and Registers'. One of the columns in the Global Viewer is 'Exists'. There will be a ""Y"" in the Exists column if the PDF file exists in the drive / directory location specified in the SY_PDL file. There will be an ""N"" in the 'Exists' column if the PDF file does not exist in the location currently stored for that PDF documents.
Use to Move button to either (1) physically move PDF files from one location to a new location and record the new location, or (2) assign a new drive and/or directory path to one or more PDF files that have already been physically moved to a new location. You may select individual files in the Viewer by using Shift-right click and CTRL- right click or you may select all of the files by not selecting any individual file and just clicking the Move button.
Note: If you choose to select individual files or a group of files by using the Shift-right-click and CTRL-click key combinations there is a limitation on the number of files that can be moved. See the manual for LM-1018 for more on the number of records that can be moved using this method. If you use the Company, Module, Document and Accounting Date From and To fields as criteria, all the document files listed in the Viewer will be moved. Do not select any individual files, or group of files, in the file list to use this method.
[To get around this limitation `do not select any documents in the Viewer'. This sounds strange but has the affect of selecting ALL the documents in the Viewer to be `moved' or more correctly to have their path reassigned to the new 4.10 location, and the 100 document
(selection) limitation is by-passed. Since all the documents for each module seem to be stored together in one place, do all of the AP documents together without selecting an individual documents in the detail section of the viewer]
After selecting the Move button you will be prompted for a new location for the PDF files
If the specified PDF files do not exist in the new location the PDF files will be physically moved from the old location (if that directory path is valid on the new server) to the new location and the 'Exists' column will be changed to 'Y'. If the PDF files already exist in the new location the 'Exists' column will change from 'N'
to 'Y' and the file locations will remain unchanged.

Just moved 5,000 files in one motion.
1) Use WIN Explorer to cut files to new location on server.
2) Then access Paperless Viewer and MOVE the files to the location that you moved them to via WIN Explorer.
Takes a bit longer than usual due to large number, but it worked for me without any issue.
I think MAS pukes because it is actually moving the files while change the directory path in the log file.

02/26/10 Move command in MAS seems to work ok when moving from system console.
