When you move MAS 200 (v4.3) to a new server, one

When you move MAS 200 (v4.3) to a new server, one of the steps in the Sage instructions is ""3. Re-install System Setup and Library Master and the same original modules at the server so that a new installation is recorded by InstallShield."" In the old days (pre-4.xx), all you needed to re-install was SS and LM. Why is it important to re-install all modules, and what are the ramifications if you only install SS & LM?

Doesn't it have something to do with installing PU's, etc. later - that they have to be installed on the same machine as the original install? (You will also have to reinstall any updates previously installed, btw.)

I think I tried that once with a local move on my laptop and it did not work (although I'm sorry to say I don't remember the details .) I usually do things by the book, but I've had success when moving MAS90 installations that have custom modifications by ""cheating"" a bit. I do a full installation of all the modules into the new location (before moving MAS to the new location) then I move the entire live MAS90 folder EXCEPT for the UNINSTALL Folder! over the top of the new install. I've only done this twice and only because re-installing all the service packs, and third party add-ons scared the heck out of me (what it might do to the data files etc.) Both times it worked like a charm and saved me a lot of time watching little blue progress bars float across the screen. I'm not making any recommendations; but I also wonder if anyone has tried that approach?

I don't think it matters anymore becuase when you enter in your keys it selects the modules.

Yes, but if you deselect everything but SS & LM, is there an issue? MAS runs ok, but I'm concerned about future PUs and upgrades.

I don't have any problems with PU's installing in copies of MAS 90 that aren't in the original folder any longer. And upgrading from v4.3 to v4.5 shouldn't be an issue either. For 200, you may have to lay down some files and registries so that you can enable the service or host application. I personally would go the economy route and install the two module and see what happens. You might have an issue installing new modules but how much longer are you going to remain on v4.3? Support ends next year.

    Good point.

Possible ramification, or something else? I only installed SS & LM, re-installed PU18, re-registered (no re-install) of DSD's Mag Media. When client tries to run the 941, it errors out with a ""Failed to Open Rowset"" message. When I open the report in Crystal and do a Verify Database, I get a Map Fields window, which shows an unmapped field labeled ""TaxDueOnUnreportedTips"", for which there is no corresponding field to map to. This field is not part of the 4.3 file layout for PR_33, so I can't figure out how it got there. I also re-installed PR-3038 (the 941 update for 2012). Scratching head. Ideas?

@DavidOverholt - that is my preferred method. I used to use it a lot, but lately all of my server switches seem to come with upgrades, so I don't have to worry about it. But that was definitely how I had been doing them.

I think if you don't install all the modules, you won't have the help files available. I seem to recall that the 4.x installations put them in some system folder somewhere.

So, chasing down the ""Failed to Open Rowset"" issue led to my re-installing programs (all of them this time), SU18, TTU and 2012 941 update. None of that worked until I re-installed the 2011 941 update followed by the 2012 941 update. Now it prints.
