When doing a VI import to Sales Order Header in 4.5.5, I am encountering an issue that I can't recall having to deal with in previous imports. This is a very large file with several hundred Sales Orders. Because this is in Beta mode, I may have to run the import and then deal with whatever data issues are discovered and then run it again. Now I receive an error stating that "" "" is missing. No field or table name (Don't you just love the error trapping msgs?) I reinit and still get the msg. If I try to enter one of these records manually then I get ""This sales order number already exists"". My question is what table is this being stored in that I am not reinitializing. I am not reint the whole sales order file. Just the header, detail, hist header, hist detail. What am I missing?

@ThereseLogeais I will try those but would they be prompting that the Sales Order already exist during manual entry?

It could if there are records in them with the same SO number(s).

I got a response from Sage re this - when doing an import, it actually uses the SO number so if you are tracking SO history, the SO numbers are considered used. Do your testing in a different company. Cool, huh? NOT.

@BethBowers I just went ahead and also zapped all So Purchase control files, all recap, SO_SalesHistory, History Tax and Detail, also went into setup options and turned off anything with history tracking, rebuilt sorts again and ran. No dice and now it has the sales order number already exists AGAIN@!$!$%!% when manual entry.

@MarkChinsky that's what happens when I try to reply to a message at a stop light.

Where else besides Sales Order could it be storing this sales order number, even though the import did not work?

They aren't using Avalara, are they?

No, and doing the test in another company code is only good for one pass and then it has the same issues. !

Rename the SOXXX folder and reactivate and setup again?

These are they only other logical ones I can think of: SO_OpenOrderDetailByItem SO_SalesOrderTaxDetail SO_SalesOrderTaxSummary

@Robert Wood It will not let me activate the sales order without doing the AR at the same time. This is absurd!

Can you just turn off SO History while testing the import?

I think Robert is suggesting you rename the existing company SOXXX folder then activate SO. AR should already be set up. Are you saying that's what you did?

I understand, but it will not let you activate Just Sales Order without doing AR at the same time.

I just renamed the SOABC directory then in Company Maintenance it showed AR already activated and let me just activate SO. I can't understand why yours would be different.

Ok, Now my AR is gone, so I have to rebuild my customer files and setup. This is really not pretty.

Old timer chiming in. Agree with @ThereseLogeais, Historically it was the SO_SalesOrderRecap file needed to be initialized (

@MikeFitzgerald I also concur with that idea, but there seems to be something else going on.

What type of file are you importing from? if CSV or other text file check if there is a blank line. You may need to add a ""skip record"" on the Record tab in VI, to recognize a blank line.

Can you summarize what worked for you in case this is an issue for someone in the future?
