When a user wants a short year in fiscal period maintenance - how are you doing this? If you change their present year and make it a short year it tends to make a future fiscal periods be too high by a year (or more) For example - change 12/31/13 to an 8 month FYE 8/31/13 --- that's FISCAL 2013 Make another short year for 9/1 - 12/31 -- Sage labels that FISCAL 2014 Next year 2014 - 1/1/14 to 12/31/14 is now labeled FISCAL 2015 Do you go back and relabel all the prior year fiscal periods and just work forward? I've only had to make short years a couple times and most of the time the company is out of business. Relabeling a lot of prior years is a little time consuming when you have 20 years of history

Why are you making a short 9/1 - 12/31/13? Isn't your 2013 ending 8/31/13 and your 2014 ending 8/31/14?

so you're trying to change from fiscal to calendar year with a short year in between? I would think you'd have to go back and fix the prior years or you end up with what you describe above. But maybe you could bundle an extra year into a prior year period so you don't have go back 20yrs. Back everything up for full reference and maybe only go five years back and dump the 6th and 7th yrs (going back) into one fiscal year?

Their company was sold. So old company was in business through sale date 8/31. New company is going to be a calendar and starts up on 9/1 - 12/31. I don't see a way to go back and change short of making a copy of this company at some point and making one of the periods 16 months to bring the Fiscal Year into sync with the actual 12/31 year.

Shouldn't new company be a new company code with no history in the GL from the old company?

I'm not in the business of providing tax or accounting advice...... in my opinion yes but I asked and they said no.

I would probably go back and relable the prior years by one (i.e. 2013 is now 2012), which would allow you to make the short year 2013 and then pick up with 2014 back in synch.
