What tool are you using to copy the MAS 90 versio 4.5 download to an installable format? Maybe I am behind the times but I am struggling with what I need to do with the .iso download file in order to be able to install on my system or for clients.

Do you have a WIN 7 machine? If you do, it will create the DVD without any extra programs.

I do have a Win 7 machine but have not yet been able to get anything to run. I did the download and when I click on it I need to have *some* other program in order to run or install.

I get as far as the Sage ERP MAS 90 installation screen but then everything is non-responsive.

Try burning another one??? Maybe the download was corrupted. We can do a GTA session and it should be done in a couple hours....

I can't burn anything. I am hoping to ""burn"" the .iso to a USB or to my hard drive. I feel like I am missing a step or two.

I just burned another image to the DVD and it looks like it worked. I can pull up the installation manual.

Not sure what I did but I seem to be installing MAS 90 on my machine right now. Still need to figure out how to get it to a USB for installation at clinet sites.

Progress?? Did the DVD burn? If so, then just copy the DVD to the USB.

Be sure to get new keys from SOS. You shoud get an extra MAS user for the SageCRM.

There is a program called MagicDisc (free) which mounts iso files as virtual CD/DVD drives. You can then copy the files to a folder on a USB drive.

I used winunzip on Windows 7. It extracted everything and I plan to copy it to a USB.

I also used Winzip to extract the files to a USB drive. Works fine now.

http://wincdemu.sysprogs.org/ This software makes using ISOs really easy. Just click on it and it mounts it as a drive. Right click the drive to eject and dismount it.

This is a little off-topic here, but was anyone ever actually notified by Sage that 4.5 was available for download. I saw where they said it was available for new customers on such and such a date and would be available for existing customers in October, but do not think I was ever ""officially"" notified that it was available. Also, I was wondering if customers have been told it was available with a link etc.?

WinRAR will unzip the .ISO file to a new folder.

Daemon Tools Lite will mount ISOs really well

I'll throw in a vote for Virtual Clone Drive. It will mount an ISO file as a drive.

I will throw in a vote for extracting the ISO to file and just loading on a USB drive and carrying around. Why use up a DVD unless necessary.

I'm sorry but I have to laugh here a bit... Sage is finally giving downloadable versions of MAS and it's an iso instead of an exe. My god ... why don't they just ship floppy disks?

  • 25.  RE: What tool are you using to copy the MAS 90 versio

    Posted 11-01-2011 21:12
I actually prefer everything to be ISO. Makes it easy to image back to a DVD or CD and I can easily mount it with the tool that I mentioned (which is portable). I like it over the EXE since it mounts on VM machines and can be burned into a copy of the CD that they would ship. We have all our media kept as ISO for Microsoft, Sage, and any other vendor that sends CDs or DVDs.

  • 26.  RE: What tool are you using to copy the MAS 90 versio

    Posted 11-01-2011 21:18
And ... why couldn't you put a bunch of exes on CDs or VMs? We have all the CRM setup.exe files going back several versions on our website. Any one on the team can download them as needed to their own machines or clients'.

Peter, hopefully your website is faster than Sage's for downloads

You could put Exe's on the CD but you would have to create the Autorun to give you a menu of what you have. What I like is that it will duplicate what the customer would have gotten had the CD been shipped. The ISO allows for a single file that can contain many exe's within it. The exe would require an export or temp export to run. You could say it is more of a preference. I just find iso easier.

Is it safe to say that folks are still either sending a DVD or inexpensive flash drive (e.g., 3+GB) to clients for 4.5 upgrades being performed remotely? And therefore not relying on the client to go thru the not-so-straight-forward process of converting the iso image to a usable format which by default on Win7 requires a DVD burner? Apparently there's other extraction/conversion options as documented above, but is that too much to put on the onus of the client? And if the former (i.e., sending a DVD to the client), do you remember to confirm that they in fact have a DVD player on the server or on a workstation? I remember running into that occasionally when EES was released in DVD format.

Flash drive with the ISO file and VirtualCloneDrive to mount the ISO file is my preferred method.

I have never burned the ISO to a DVD to install. I just extracted it to my external drive then copy the files to the client site and install from there. If they download it I tell them to just extract the files to a folder. No need to waste a DVD.

I have yet to run into an issue where a DVddD reader was not available from somewhere on the network. My only issue to date has been a bad DVD burn at a client. I eventually transferred the DVD via a GTA session. When I go on site, I take a USB with the software loaded as a backup.

@DawnAnastasi, having them simply download the ISO file and extract it sounds very reasonable. How are they extracting it though? @DawnAnastasi and @JeffSchwenk, doesn't it take an extremely long time to file transfer 2.88GB to the client's system?

I'm using a USB thumb drive. I was able to download the original source MAS ISO to Windows 7 and I think it either automatically extracted or I used WinZip -- put it onto a desktop folder and then just copy/paste to USB drives as needed to bring with me.

  • 35.  RE: What tool are you using to copy the MAS 90 versio

    Posted 02-29-2012 11:15
@WayneSchulz, so if WinZip can be used to extract it, that means the client would need to install that also. I'd rather not have the client run through the extra hoops. For going onsite, it's not a problem because you can just bring a DVD, flash drive, external drive, etc.

Probably the cheapest way is either email a disk or host the files on Sugar or Yousendit or SkyDrive (not sure which is fastest). It's a time consumer but doable

  • 37.  RE: What tool are you using to copy the MAS 90 versio

    Posted 02-29-2012 11:23
If I go on-site, I copy the extracted files from an external drive to the server. If I am remote, I will just do a download and let it run while I am doing something else. I'd rather do it that try and explain to a client where to go on Sage's site to get it, etc. I ususlly will extract it with 7-zip.

  • 38.  RE: What tool are you using to copy the MAS 90 versio

    Posted 02-29-2012 11:25
7-zip is the way I go too.

    Posted 02-29-2012 11:29
So @DawnAnastasi, along with instructing the client to downoad the 4.5 ISO file, do you also provide instructions for installing 7-zip and extracting the ISO?

If I am onsite I have a USB drive with all versions of MAS with all the updates and program fixes that I downloaded. I install the program I referenced above (winCDEmu which is only 813kb and is free). If I am going to do it remote I would connect the day before and copy from my machine to their machine the ISO (I use file transfer in Bomgar to do this). When I connect the next day to do the upgrade the ISO is ready for me and I install the small app for mounting ISOs. I just right click it and say mount. When done with the CD I right click it and say eject.

Had gone ahead and mailed a 4.5 DVD to the client. However, for some reason the DVD contents weren't correct, so the DVD was no good. But it was a good thing I also had the client download the .iso just in case. And then I was able to simply use WinZip to extract the .iso.
