What security setting allows editing of the Status section in Opportunities? The user's profile has view/edit/insert/delete all checked for opportunities, but while the Details section is editable, the Status section is not.

Is it because there is workflow associated with the status that only an admin can edit those fields? The customer would like the inside sales profile to be able to fix incorrect ""assigned to"" without having to go to the admin.

Stage and status typically are controlled through workflow but nothing should prevent you from editing those fields. Go check the screen within Admin > Customization > Secondary Entities : OpportunityProgress and see if there are any createscript rules on the fields. Honestly this problem sounds familiar ... maybe we modified our system a long time ago to resolve it and I've forgotten ...

No scripts, no field security, and the behavior is the same on my out of the box demo install.

My understanding is that those fields are disabled when worflow is enabled/associated with the entity, but I can't remember where I read that, or if I'm just speaking from experience. AC

That might be but we have workflow enabled and we can make those changes. I'm checking with my team. This sounds very familiar.

@PeterWolf - do your users all have admin rights? Because Admins can edit those fields even with the workflow.

Well .. they aren't supposed to but apparently that is the issue. Now I need to go revoke rights ... Let me ask this question: what are you / your client trying to accomplish here? If you don't want to use workflow, disable it. If you do want to use it, you should control the flow with it. If you want to eat your cake and have it too, then you can try to move some of those fields to the Details panel and see if that resolves the issue.

@PeterWolf called it on editing the Secondary entities. I recently had to add a new field that would show up in the status box. Had to create a new field there and then another one of the same name/type/size in the primary entity for the field to be useable.
