What is your opinion / experience with Sage 100 2018 readiness? I see product update 1 and have read through the release notes. I have installed it and ran into some issues on Windows 7 test PC with printing any Crystal Reports (forms and reports). That's about it. @Sage100UrgentSupportNeeded @Sage100Routine

Yes- for sites without payroll No - for sites with payroll. At least not yet. I'd like to see a few 90 Minds pioneers report back on 100+ person payroll migration before I venture in. I'm 100% telling customers they must stay current and they want to be on a version where the product update is currently supported.

For people without payroll it's so far been simple (we haven't done any JC either) for those with payroll, we ran into a few errors listed bellow however after these were cleared up it wasn't that hard. though do make sure the *utl command is used and I personally would suggest a test upgrade. 1) for pre migration steps if the missing employee log is long in the source data backup PR_99 and PR_21 then reinitialize them rerun the report, and then restore them before continuing. this is because it tracks employees that may not have history as missing due to auditing features. 2) export the current employee number list and verify that you don't have the same employee number in different departments if you do correct this before migrating. This is pretty simple with excel and a sumif as a test.

We upgraded our company and we use payroll and the only issue i have seen so far is that the 2018 checks (one written on January 1) do not show in Emp Maintnenace/Inquiry on the checks tab, although earnings show, and they show in reports.

@DouglasLuchansky there is a Sage KB on checks dated 1/1/18 missing from inquiry. This is one of the things which has the words ""hold off"" repeating in my head.

Thanks Wayne - found the resolution (easy enough) - we have a small company so easy to fix but might be a bit more complicated for a larger company.

We've been using 2018 for our in-house accounting for weeks now without incident. But we don't use payroll.

@WayneSchulz what is the KB id? I can't find it (frickin' KB).

I couldn't find it again in search (I think because I was looking for 1/1/2018 when the KB uses 01/01/2018). Luckily I had shared a screen capture which also has the KB ID on it #108649 - https://goo.gl/Ciwna1

P.S. - I had a good laugh at Sage's workaround and imagining myself suggesting that to someone with a 200 person payroll.

I have done about 15 upgrades to 2018.1 for my clients with payroll. It is going very well! I have a checklist of things to check for that I would be happy to share. Clients LOVE the new payroll.

@MerilynVanZwieten I would be interested in that checklist. Also, do any of those customers have Local Tax Code considerations? Creating the profiles has been very tedious for us so far...

@MerilynVanZwieten Thank you so much for this! Question: If the company is just a backup of a prior year and will never get any more entries, are there any steps that can be left out? Can setups be copied from one company to another?

And does it all have to be redone for a live upgrade if you do a test upgrade?

I did my first upgrade to V2018, sp1 (from V2016) with Sage Intelligence yesterday. The directions for updating SI are basically export the report from old system and import into new system. For this customer, I didn't do anything--it just worked. Did anyone else experience this? Any potential issues that anyone could think of? Also, @MerilynVanZwieten, I'd appreciate if you could also share your PR list with me. Thank you for sharing your hard work and list.

You cannot leave out any steps for the live company. When you apply tax rules to a company the system looks to other companies for the same earnings/deduction codes and prompts you to apply the rule to other companies. Many of my clients had lots of copies to maintain history. When asked, every client declined going through the copied companies for all the steps. As for the redo for a live upgrade after test upgrades....All of our upgrades have been live so I cannot answer that question. Clients have all done a test payroll where we testing the application of the tax rules and tax profiles as part of the upgrade. It really helped them adapt to some of the new requirements. (it helped me a lot too!)

What is everyone's experience upgrading to 2018 with Payroll module? How much longer is this taking than the regular upgrade from a reasonably current version? Is the checklist posted anywhere or can someone forward to me as well?

FYI - a few payroll issues I have discovered. You cannot import a manual check into payroll data entry (Scott Brady is sending this to programming) and if you have 2 local tax codes the gross wages for the local tax codes are doubled on the W-2's.

Also an issue - if you have 2 checks for an employee in the same check run and one check is below the unemployment level and one puts you over, it treats them both as under (doesn't correctly take into account the first check).

In the Converting Payroll Data section of help, I read this: If you've upgraded from a version of Payroll earlier than 2.18, you may need to update employee records if you were using one of the Tax Calc Override options in Employee Maintenance. The following override options are no longer available: Fixed Amount Percentage of Gross Although you can get the information from the Employee Listing report, this report is more compact. I have not done a PR conversion yet.

@BethBowers - Sage has had issues in the past with multiple checks in the same check run. Many moons ago, I brought to their attention a problem with YTD taxes on subsequent checks. The YTD amounts did not include the prior check's withholdings when calculating check 2 (+) YTD amounts. I suspect these won't be the only issues with multiple checks in the same batch.

PR 2018, state tax tables. In Iowa, state taxes withheld are rounded to the nearest dollar. In tax table maintenance of yore, there was a flag in tax table maintenance to round the tax calc. I have looked high and low for this switch in v2018 but seem to be looking everywhere but where it is. Can someone point me in the right direction?

I don't think you can change the actual tax calculation anymore.

Doesn't look like it. They need to get on the stick as Iowa hasn't been collecting pennies for at least 10 years now. Overriding is going to be a weekly PITA if they don't get it changed.
