What is the best file type to use when creating digital files from VHS tape or camcorder tapes? Am using Pinnacle Studio Ultimate to create and I have numerous options. Starting a big project of converting tapes of family events over the years. Goal is to give DVD's to the kids. Thanks in advance.

To give a DVD, AVI is best as that's the format a DVD Video is and usually requires no additional transcoding and has the least loss. It also creates some of the largest file sizes. For internet sharing etc, MP4 or XVID are good.
