What does ""OVERDIST"" mean? What causes this description in the receipt number column of the inventory valuation report?

When tiered-cost items go negative, this is the ""negative-tier.

Negative tier created when distribution from SO Invoice exceeds QOH for that FIFO/LIFO tier. In Period End, use Negative Tier Adjustment to offset against positive tiers. If still not enough, use Transaction Adjustment or Physical Count to resolve.

They check negative tiers each month during closing. How can a LIFO item be over distributed? These are positive values. A negative tier is a negative quantity. The system makes the user distribute each item. The owner says these were returned items from three years ago and the over distributed appeared after we upgraded a few months ago.

Unless an item is marked as not allowed to go negative, it can. When these tiers exist, I believe the will allow entries be processed toward them (Receipts, Returns, Issues, etc.).

If you do a return on an item that has no qoh, it will create a positive OVERDIST tier.
