What do you think about having MOTM 2016 include the initial two-day Baker/Kless as part of the conference? If we don't have Baker/Kless as part of the conference then I wonder if we price this aggressively - would we get more attendees. My super quick analysis is that we'd break-even at 50 people if we charged $500 for the two days. I view this as a very high-value course - and while we can lead a horse to water..... we should make every effort to supply that water even if we cannot convince people to drink.... The costs below include: $25/person x 2 days for lunch $15/person x 2 days for break/refreshments

I agree. The more that are introduced to this, the more input, discussions and collaboration.

If we're charging $500 for the two days, how is that including it in the MotM conference?? Am I not reading this correctly? Is the $500 in ADDITION to the MotM fee??

  • 4.  RE: What do you think about having MOTM 2016 include t

Sorry - the first part of the question is whether we would consider making Baker/Kless part of the full conference. If we did that - I could see us charging something like $400 for Baker/Kless and $475 for the conference for a total MOTM fee of $875 (we would not price it separately - just an $875 conference fee). If we decide to incorporate the Baker/Kless then I would like us to not offer a separate price - rather make MOTM 2016 fee = $875 (the split above is just for our purposes in knowing about what we'd allocate the revenues to). If we didn't want to make Baker/Kless part of the conference then we could price Baker/Kless at $500 as pre-conference optional and the conference at $475. People could pick and choose which they want to go to. This is the traditional way of doing this. I think it would be great to have a group general session on this - though it's just an idea. I for one would attend and look forward to the sharing of ideas and I think Baker/Kless are two of the best facilitators for that. (And with the current Sage climate there's no telling for how long we may have access to them). I suggest this as more of an option for us to consider. I don't have strong opinion one way or another.

when I say ""part of the conference"" -- I mean not just a pre-conference but MOTM would actually become 4 days and our first two days would be this general session

I think that is a great idea but what if people don't want to come for two more days? Would we still have the Meet & Greet on Thursday night? If we had it on Tuesday night, would affiliates be able to attend the Ed Kless/Ron Baker sessions as well?

  • 7.  RE: What do you think about having MOTM 2016 include t

I think we still have a meet and greet Thursday PM. It's a valid question about whether we want to ask people to spend two more days and what the feedback from people might be. We might be forced to offer an option for the full or half conference. I'm sure people will ask. Maybe $ 875 for full conference / $ 675 for either of the two days . I would love to see us have a great turnout for two days of general session on this, but it's just a thought.

I wonder if there's a way to apply 3-level pricing to this? Your suggested pricing 675/875 is a good start. I do think it's important that the headline and substance of the Baker-Kless Show be different enough so as to not be obviously repetitive. ""FOTF"" won't be enough. Should we get some member feedback about the top 3 reason's they delay implementing the concepts?

SLA will be having Russell Cullingworth come to speak about Emotional Intelligence. I believe they typically have one topic.

The only concern I can see from some, especially if attending SLA, is that this ends up being away for a full week.

I probably will, too. SLA hopes to recruit through this timing/location. SLA lets you attendance once before you must pay membership. So maybe some more will consider it.

Give this idea some thought over the weekend. If anything maybe it modifies our approach to how we price it and we provide deep discounts to those making investments in both programs - via an $875 early registration for both courses and $675 for just the technical or just the Baker/Kless. Prior thinking on price: Baker/Kless: $ 800 first / $ 600 second+ MOTM 2015: $475/socialcast member New thinking on price: Full conference ticket: $ 875 (4 days - Baker/Kless and MOTM) MOTM 2015 only: $ 675 Baker/Kless only: $675

If it's still up for discussion, I would suggest that it is offered as two sections for several of the reasons already given. I would add that with a room of 60+, there won't be a lot of multi-directional dialogue.

  • 22.  RE: What do you think about having MOTM 2016 include t

    Posted 09-22-2015 03:56
If there's not overwhelming support for it then I say we drop it and just go with two separate events.

    Posted 09-22-2015 07:11
@WayneSchulz why don't you do a vote on this ? I like the New Thinking and @BrianRice I think there will still be a multi directional dialogue even if we get 60+ people.

  • 24.  RE: What do you think about having MOTM 2016 include t

    Posted 09-22-2015 07:23
I like the 875/675. Although I don't know if $200 is the right difference; maybe 250. And Ms Democracy is right: solicit a vote on it.

  • 25.  RE: What do you think about having MOTM 2016 include t

    Posted 09-22-2015 08:08
I just made the suggestion - I think @ThereseLogeais or @JimWoodhead should make the decision on whether to vote or not. I am ok with either way. Pricing suggestion: Full conference ticket: $ 875 (4 days - Baker/Kless and MOTM) MOTM 2015 only: $ 675 Baker/Kless only: $675 We'd refer to the 4 days as full conference though would offer tickets to the two events separately if someone absolutely couldn't make them both. Baker and Kless for $200? Such a steal... Anchor pricing is what I think they call the $875?

Let's put together a formal spreadsheet in Google docs so that the guess work will at least look scientific. Wayne, do you have one set up?

  • 28.  RE: What do you think about having MOTM 2016 include t

    Posted 09-22-2015 08:28
Yes here is what I've been using - it has the prior numbers (we basically took last years and made slight changes). There is also a tab at the bottom for Baker/Kless which reflects what we think our fixed/variable fees are. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AvYLaRGGgqWrODKaSSPxIojI129SxXkEjOhEK0nNeFs/edit?usp=sharing

    Posted 09-22-2015 08:39
Check the Baker/Kless tab - by my math we have $22,500 fixed costs to cover with the additional variable cost being about $40 per person per day in lunch/break costs. (I used $25 for lunch / $15 for breaks - per person per day).

Speaker fees are $10,000 unless we have to pickup travel for Ed. The $10k is inclusive of travel and expenses for Baker.

Sorry for being late to the table. Will take a look later today/tonight. Good feedback. Once the big numbers are determined, various scenarios can be developed. I do expect some subsidies will be needed, whether from the 90M general fund or from the vendor affiliate participation charges.

If we do it the ""New way"" that is suggested, couldn't we have sponsors for Baker\Kless lunch day's?

  • 37.  RE: What do you think about having MOTM 2016 include t

    Posted 09-22-2015 09:09
I suggest that every event we offer that we consider whether sponsors are available/appropriate. So, yes a possibility I'd think.

$875 for all 4 days (Kless/Baker and MOTM 2016) $575 for 2 days MOTM - ONLY $675 for 2 days Ron & Ed - ONLY $20,000 to $25,000 subsidy from affiliates - Can't buy one ticket and send different people - the ticket is for the person - no substitution Go up $250 for each payment deadline No discount for additional people attending

Quick computation of what I think our P&L for this event will look like - essentially break even with $25,000 sponsor allocation toward revenues. The tabs in green are the ones that I used for this (and provided backup detail). Separate tab for revenue, expense and ultimately summarize profit/loss. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AvYLaRGGgqWrODKaSSPxIojI129SxXkEjOhEK0nNeFs/edit?usp=sharing

I did this rather quickly this morning so there may be some revision -- and also these revenue numbers are guesses at the number of people who attend and the mix of tickets (4-day vs 2-day). I've tried to be conservative.

Revenue projection breakdown - my sense is that I may be high on the KLESS/BAKER projection numbers

Thanks for preparing the revenue projections @WayneSchulz. I wonder if the full registrations, 4-day, are going to be more than 20?

I'm open to changing - I would hope that we can promote it and generate way more. I tried to be conservative on the estimates.

    Posted 10-16-2015 08:53
Agree, conservative is better choice, I just think we'll have more as there are many new 90 Minds Members that didn't attend the DC FOTM.

    Posted 10-16-2015 09:59
I think more will attend, but let's stay conservative. I actually worry about having too MANY folks attending but we can deal with that too.

Just to consider what some may think when planning: Ideally I would send 4 to all 4 days, but we have so much going on that I may cut that back. Additionally I have SLA to attend. I didn't find that combination to be convenient.
