We signed up for a small biz access to Coursera recently and several of us are taking classes. I would give it a thumbs up.
I looked at many of the online learning portals before settling on Coursera. It was challenging because they all do things a bit differently.
Coursera is $400 for an all you can eat annual subscription. This was under the Small Business package. It required a minimum of 5 seats. It was a huge savings and great value compared to single course consumption.
I'm tearing through the courses that I'm interested in. I'm almost certain that I won't renew. Not because of quality of experience or dissatisfaction. I will be through with all the courses that interest me before the renewal date.
On a related note:
This exact problem is one we face at Azamba and QuantaCRM (my MSFT CRM business). Our annual plans include support services and implementation + ongoing training courses. We have been made painfully aware that training has limited long-term value to most customers.
We are supplementing this with bundled intellectual property to create higher lock-in to our subscription services. We are in early days but it is being well received. Our annualized revenue and year-over-year retention is growing. We should break $1MM in recurring revenue in the next 4 - 6 months - that's a big milestone for us.
If anyone is interested, I'm happy to do a session on this model (solo or on a panel) at the next MotM - our struggles and our successes.
