We have a prospect that is running a linux environment and they are running Samba which is a open source software package often used with Linux distributions replacing windows file and print servers. It is also managing a SAN. Has anyone installed MAS90 in this type of environment and what types of problems might we have with printing and paperless office?

I had a customer that tried to use a Linux box with MAS 90 version 4.05. They argued that it should work, because the linux box was just acting as file storage. But they had all sorts of issues. Then they switched to a Windows server, and the issues went away. This was years ago though.

Linux/Samba would be fine for storing files from paperless office, and while you can use Samba for printing, I prefer CUPS. I definitely would not install MAS onto a Samba share, though. That's just asking for trouble. I run a linux (Centos 5) server at home for the phone system, file sharing, and printing, and I love it. We use Windows and Linux (ubuntu) on our personal PCs, and we have no difficulty using the shared printer or the file server.
