We have a customer who would like to import notes from a legacy system into CRM. The fun part is that they are extremely long notes that were crammed into one field for each customer in their previous system. They want to be able to bring them into CRM as notes, but then be able to search within the notes (since it's like 10 years worth of notes). My understanding is that there really isn't anywhere in CRM where you could search within a field? Any thoughts on this?

You could do this a few ways with Sage CRM but the recommendations would be based on knowing a more about their needs and their requirements. Why do they want to search notes? What is the goal here? Is each note linked only to a single customer / company record? Are they linked to a person? A user? How much data are we talking about? 1000s of records or hundreds of 1000s? How fast is this search in the current system? Depending on data size and implementation choices, this could be slow. How are they going to track notes in the future? Do they want to keep appending to these massive customer based notes?

Hey Peter - the purpose of this would be all for historical data. We have talked them into using MAS/CRM to better track notes in the future. Each note is linked to a single customer, and i believe we are looking at about 500 customers. Their legacy system is dos based, slow, and ugly. They have hired their old programmer just to get the data out, it's that important to them. They would not be appending these old notes, they just want the actual content of the note to be searchable.

Why can't they load it into Notes and when you pull up a particular Note, you can use Ctl-F to find stuff.

Wow - did i ever over complicate that. The built in IE search wasn't working on our test VM, but I just tried it on my local machine and it works more than fine. Thanks for pointing out the obvious...hopefully my cheeks will go back to their normal color here soon
