We have a customer on Premium, with runtime SQL purchased through Sage. When planning an upgrade, their hosting service provider is being a pain, trying to force the customer into buying their SQL CAL's at twice the price. Does anyone know how to get this type of information from Sage (see image), so I can silence the fussy customer IT? http://download.microsoft.com/download/7/9/b/79bd917e-760b-48b6-a266-796b3e47c47a/License_Mobility_Customer_Verification_Guide.pdf

M$ will let you have a 180 trial version of SQL Server. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/evaluate-sql-server-2016

Thanks Phil but this is a Live environment where the customer **has paid Sage for the SQL users**, but we need to ""prove it"" to the customer IT or they won't install SQL on the new server.

Oh - I thought you were talking about them giving you grief over having a second instance for test upgrade. Will they not believe a copy of the Sage invoice?

No, they won't believe it. Their point seems to be that they don't believe the licenses are valid for a hosted RDS / Citrix environment... which seems a stretch. I think they are just using any excuse to pressure the customer to bring the $'s to themselves instead of Sage. ""Somewhere we must be able to get verification from Sage that what we are paying covers us for a hosting environment.

    I'd find another hosting environment...

I agree 100%, but it is not my choice. (The last upgrade was equally painful).

It is a somewhat valid question though. When a customer says ""I have a license"", why should a managed data center believe them? Using the M$ process to validate licenses is not something I can object to on principle. The fact that Sage admin is ill equipped to answer the question is not surprising... and I'm hoping a Mind has a tip on how I can drag the information out of one dark corner or another. (A colleague already tried for a couple hours to get something from Sage with no success).

Update: Apparently the SQL CAL's from Sage are through an ISVR agreement, and don't come with License ""Mobility"" (required for being used on cloud / hosted servers). Still following up, with some information provided by Sage, but I'm not hopeful. My characterization of the hosting provider being ""fussy"" is not really fair in retrospect. After digging in a bit further they may be right.

Sage always marketed those licenses as ""just like standard SQL except you can only use it with Sage products"". No mention of an ""only on servers you own"" restriction. Can you imagine buying a car and being pulled over on a highway in a neighboring state and having to prove that what you paid for included driving it in another state?? #FrakSoftwareLicensingBS

Not the ""only difference"" at all, so... a lie:
