  • 1.  We are in the process of moving Sage into Azure Virtual Desktop. This will replace our Sage on Citrix.

    Hey Azure Techies,

    Client is moving off Sage from Citrix to the Azure Virtual Desktop.  They are looking for guidance.

    Can someone explain the process?

    They have Sage 100 Premium, use SI extensively, use doclinks, use Sage Fixed Assets and other integrations.

    In general, this question would be a project, but AVD vs Citrix is all about the front-end remote desktop (think Workstation). Everything in the back-end (server) would work the same way it does now.

    I had a client make this move about four years ago.

    When their IT called me my eyes rolled back in my head. I basically said good luck and make sure you have a backup.... 

    Fast forward and much to my surprise ( and delight ) their external IT / MSP made this transition with zero downtime. They have the same type of hefty Sage configuration including Sage 100 Premium, ScanForce, Altec, Cimcloud, StarShip and lots of VI and reporting. This is a 30+ user site.

    Zero point Zero problems. This could have been the results of using a good MSP. It could have been that there were good tools to move everything without needing a re-install.

    That is impressive.  Moving a complex multi-server environment to a new data center, without growing pains, is not easy.  Skilled IT staff / MSP is key for sure.

    If someone is looking for "guidance", I'd insist on a test migration, and user testing of every function in the new environment, before going Live.
