We are curious which Document Management Systems you all are recommending with Sage 100 these days. Has anyone done a comparison lately on the contenders? We are trying to find a low cost of entry system for our customers. What are you experiences?

What is your definition of low cost and what are you looking for in the document management system? ACOM has one that will set you back around 15K, but it does have routing approvals and other bells and whistles. @JimWoodhead has a system he speaks highly of (name escapes at the moment) and I have a low end solution using scripts that will attach a source document to AP invoice inquiry. Lots out there.

We work with Altec over ACOM based on a comparison of the two - probably about 2 years ago. Some reasons: 1. The functionality of doc-link seemed more complete, especially for general document and work flows. 2. The look of doc-link was more intuitive. 3. Altec seems to be very professional and organized. 4. Altec approaches projects with a consultative approach, an ROI analysis being part of the Business Process Review. 5. Altec is an endorsed partner. 6. I trust and get along well with the Altec people. I know some would differ about my points above, but they are my opinion and feeling in some cases, and that's at times what makes us select one over the other. Both systems are a large investment, especially if you go beyond just accounts payable, but for organizations that have the need for document management and work flow, the benefits and cost savings should justify this. I don't know of any inexpensive solutions, and am not sure they are worth it, if there is a true need. Within the CPA industry, all solutions are minimum 6 figures for firms of any size, such as ours, so the cost has not decreased over time.

yes, we looked at Acom and Altec. They both look like good solutions. But our customers seem to want to spend under 10k, at least for the smaller guys. We looked at a docSTAR today, that looks pretty nice. We havent' seem pricing yet but are hoping you can start off under 10k and build as you add things like OCR and workflow. Thanks for your input. all is appreciated.

We have carried doc-link from Altec for over many years. We have done small implementations (2 users) and large installations (120 users)..There is a lot you can do with doc-link and the workflow engine can bring a lot of ROI. We are a very big advocate. We have not worked with Acom but I think they have a very good reputation as does ASG Cypress. I never cared about Cypress as it uses a proprietary database engine and Providex gives me enough grief without buying into another. Lately we have signed up with docAssist. We have a proposal out with an integration with IntAcct. They supposedly have integrations with 100 and 500 but I haven't done one yet. It has workflow capabilities as well. As a SaaS product, the technology and storage headaches go away and the entry price is significantly less than any other comperable product I have looked at. if interested, drop me a note and I will give you contact information.

Altec's doc-link seems to be a much robust solution then Acom. . Their product is very mature and they have a great support team if you run into problems. As you have heard above they have a very professional implementation team. Contact Richard Simmons <richardsimmons@ALTEC-INC.COM> if you have any questions . Make sure you mention 90Minds, They have been very supportive of us.

I wrote a simple attachment manager for a customer once that uses custom office buttons run a program that manages attachments for AP (but I could do payroll or job cost or anything in 4.3 and up). I had a visit with some of the other guys from our firm, and they are willing to do a 30% revenue share on any sales of the product. I'm open to suggestions on pricing. I did this for $2,250 (I think) for the customer who asked for it. Is that fair? Too high, too low?
