Waiver of Fees for Presenters.. Trying to collect fees for the last four attendees. Shaver indicates that he isn't paying his because he is paying enough already and is a presenter. While I am not against such an action, it does open up a can of worms. Thoughts. Jeff, Sorry dude but I just don't see the value in paying for the conference. I'm already paying travel expenses, I think that is enough. Even Tom Miller comps the fee for presenters. Occupy MOTM. The fees are mostly paying for the meals and $33 for the Hotel room. With that said. I tend to agree with him on the comp of fee for presenters. I think he has a valid point - many conferences don't charge presenters. I would have preferred to handle this up front versus once everyone has already paid and we are trying to collect. Also some of our sessions are highly collaborative and depend upon everyone participating. Some members could rightfully ask whether they should be asked to pay. I don't like being held up at the 11th hour. My opinion is that this is shared cost - and at this date everyone pays even presenters. John has also questioned the value of the group overall and while I'd hate to lose him if he is not finding value he should reconsider membership as should any member who feels they are not receiving value for the annual fees.

I think Mr. Shaver should have brought this up a lot earlier than now. Not saying I disagree with his point. By waiting to the last minute, he creates a scene that could have been avoided. The question now is: how are we going to address this? What are our options?

PS. I agree with Wayne. We all pay. If we want to change that for next time, we can discuss it in the admin meeting.

I'm not against it. I am just against it when the ship has set sale. He sent this on 1/27 in response to my first collection letter. I thought he was joking at the time, but now realize that he wasn't. I agree with Wayne's logic.

I'd just reply ""sorry John everyone is paying we have not made accommodations for presenters since this conference is collaborative and everyone is expected to participate.

This kind of pisses me off --- for an all volunteer group we have to get involved in shit like this. It's one reason I've taken the stance with customers that their check is their acknowledgement that they want to place a software order or maintenance renewal. Everything they tell me before receipt of payment is just nice to know but their payment is their confirmation....

Or my accounting service fees or Wayne's global outlook fees or Robert's IT fees. Can't think of anything coming from Peter though!

I'm pretty sure I got the OASIS ball rolling. Plus our first annual virtual end user conference stemmed from me.

And the latest from John.... Jeff, I thought we already had this conversation. At this point, it's not about the price, rather it's about the principle. You guys invited me to present a session, technically you volunteered me. I'm more than happy to present and talk about whatever you might find valuable. However, there are zero sessions that hold any interest for me. I've already made travel plans and I'm not going to change them. If you don't want me at the conference, that's fine. My daughter is coming with me and I had planned to skip pretty much everything except my session anyway. It's no problem at all for me to skip the entire conference. Just let me know

I will defer to the group on this. Those are just my thoughts.

We can fill the timeslot right? I would love for Wayne to do a song and a dance about how he uses social media stuff if he would be willing. Or Wayne can talk about value pricing (and I can add my two cents in there too).

My thought is to have him do his presentation. Thank him for the presentation and let him leave. Remind him that the $150 is really to cover our out of pocket expense and that all the other speakers are doing their presentations gratis. We can take him off all meal and social plans. I guess our big mistake was not asking for a signed KTA before we started the project.

I agree with part of Jeff view in that we need to let him know that the conference is essentially free and the $150 is cover the meals not sponsored and the hotel room.

We are just trying to make it easier to group the expenses.

We don't need to do anything. Let him do his session. It would be super awkward to have him there and be making small talk if we asked him not to present. My guess is he probably won't be asked again and he may not choose to renew his membership. For the future we will unfortunately have to keep this in mind and be clear that no membership or reservation is confirmed until cash is received . We probably also need to hammer down a reinstatement policy at the admin meeting. Apparently people need to be treated like kids.

@PeterWolf OASIS was your idea but it wasn't a good one until @WayneSchulz had it.

I know he wasn't planning on going until he was asked to present. I'm pretty sure he's fine with not participating in anything other than the one session.

Yea, this is a real mess. For the $$ we are talking, I say let it pass, we don't need bad blood. Obviously next year, the policy, one way or another will be made known well in advance and these presenters can decide if they are good with it.
