Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (vcredist) won't install on Windows 11 24H2

Has anyone else run into an issue with not being able to install Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (vcredist) during a Sage 100 workstation setup on Windows 11 24H2.  No issue on 23H2.  I've come across some general postings but nothing specific to Sage 100.  Looks like 24H2 was released 10/1.

This client is running v2022 Prem.  Also, although I could bypass the prereq's and get into the wizard (via setup exe/msi), the Next button wouldn't work on the screen where you can specify the local/client path, but the Back button works.

The prereq appears to install but then just disappears.

I can't vouch for this site or the download, but they claim it works:

I was told by Sage Support yesterday that "Win 11 24H2 has known issues" and NOT to install it.  You may need to reach out to Micro$oft to validate.

Yesterday we had another similar issue with v2022 workstation setup on Win11 24H2.

How does Sage expect to stop the Tsunami coming from this update?  One of my WIN11 workstations updated overnight.

So Sage wants all their customers to be on subscription and always on the latest version, but they are still using a 20 year old C++ package?

We are seeing this on a new computer where OEM delivered shipped it with 24H2.

Our case #8010283485 if you call Sage to report another instance.

MSP did a bunch of hacking to get the client to start up (without ever getting wksetup to install), but it can't print of course.

Thankfully, they have an RDS to point the user to for now, while they decide how to get the machine to 23H2 and stop update to 24H2.

This is going to be a potential nightmare for coming ugprades....

Google pointed me at this discussion, which suggests uninstalling other versions, then trying with the oldest first.  (I have not encountered this yet, so it's untested).

Edit: oh... I see @Steve Iwanowski already posted this link.  :-)

Thanks, Kevin. I stopped at that solution where it was saying to download packages from somewhere other than MS. I will read that a little closer.

Edit: I did send that link to the MSP though.

Reading the thread, it appears as though that download is just a convenient way to install all the versions in one package.

They key (for one user) seemed to be uninstalling the newer versions first, which allowed the install of the old 2005 version... and of course you'd need to reinstall the versions you uninstalled after that (downloaded from M$, not using the 3rd party installer), assuming the other versions are needed for other programs.

The base assumption is that a newer version of the C++ Redistributable is in the Win 11 24H2 image, and that is blocking the install of the 2005 version.

If anyone is able to test this theory, please share results.  :-)

Yes, thank you for the summary. That was what I gleaned from that thread too.

I am going to suggest that we try it, nothing to lose since the option is to wipe and install 23H2 or clone another machine with that build.

If the MSP is onboard to try, I'll update.

So I have a client with new Win 11 machines on 24H2 and he is unable to run PL_AdvancedOptions_UI.  The error message says it's unable to find it, and it cuts off the Sage folder where the space is (so folder is Sage 100 Blah blah and the error says Unable to find \\server\Software\Sage and cuts off right there).  He's able to run it on his Win 10 machines.

Bless Microsoft's heart re this release...

Apparently, @Eric Lunceford - the client ran it, not me, but I think he would have contacted me if not.  I have the PL_AdvancedOptions_UI as part of their workstation installation instructions, and he appears to have been able to get to that part.

Had another issue arise where the client is on Prem v2020.10.  They have a user who has been on Win11 for the last 2 years, and working fine.  Last Wednesday (11/27) the workstation was updated to Win11 24H2 thru a Microsoft update and now, no matter what we do, the PDF converter will not work: "Unable to process the Lockfile – Processing Cancelled."   We've done everything possible but could not resolve.

@Brett Zimmerman - did you try running Home\PDFInstall.exe?  That worked for my client.

Thanks, @Beth Bowers, that worked.  But per the Consultant who ran it, apparently it wasn't that straight-forward.  I'll post her notes once I receive them.
