  • 1.  VI Script to import bank transactions

    Posted 09-26-2024 13:15

Rather than using "Bank Feeds" we set up a couple of VI scripts to import transactions that have been downloaded from the bank in a CSV file.  I have an Excel template that uses vlookup to code most of the transactions then the GL clerk codes the few ambiguous items.  The file has credits and debits in separate columns.  I have two VI scripts; one for the deposits and one for the adjustments/charges. The transactions are imported into the GL Transaction Journal file.

I was thinking that I could combine these into one script applying a little "if then" logic. The "Offset" field and the "Transaction Type" field would be different based upon which column (debit or credit) contained a value. I was wondering what the calculation should look like or if I should a conditional expression.  Does anyone have any advice on this?

Also, is there ANY way that I can manipulate how the "Comment" is formatted once posted? Currently the posted comment is showing the "Doc: xxx" ahead of the comment entered.  The customer doesn't want the document displaying first.

I don't have an answer for you, but I am wondering what brought you to the solution of using VI.  Was Bank Feeds not able to be set up?  I ask this because I haven't been successful even once in setting up Bank Feeds for my clients, and Sage has not provided resolutions.  Would you be willing to share your import jobs?

Susan, we never even proposed Bank Feeds because the customer had several banks to deal with. Plus, feedback from 90 Minds on this was not encouraging.

Our project to use VI to integrate Banks with Sage 100 is part of our goal with this customer to produce near-real-time closings. It includes several other elements, too. The finished product will be part of our IP we offer to customers.

When we finish the project (soon!) we explore how much we might share with the community.
