Very import document for importing payroll data entry into 2018. The import doesn't ask the deduction period anymore. And, the import takes deductions each time the employee number changes, so if the employee number isn't sequential in the file, an employee will have multiple deductions. I hope there is a workaround besides sorting the file before import (customers might forget). Workaround anyone?

@JaneCavanaugh - I just set up a payroll data entry job for a customer on 2017. They won't have pay entries for every employee on file, so some will be skipped. Are you saying that an employee will have their deductions doubled if he falls in sequence after one that is skipped?

This issue only applies to Payroll 2018. 2017 should be OK.

@JaneCavanaugh Yes, I understood that, but I'm wondering what will happen when I upgrade them to 2018. So in 2018, an employee's deduction are doubled if his record fall after a skipped employee #?

@JaneCavanaugh - Deduction period is in the header file now. To import everything, you need two imports - The first is the batch header and the second is the line details.

@KarenOLane - See my example. The deductions trigger on the change of employee number. So if the employee numbers are not sequential, the employee will get multiple deductions. My customer sorted the import by earnings code, not employee number, and so the result was multiple deductions.

Please confirm - if you run two imports, one header and one detail, the deductions are correct. If you don't and the employee records are not sequential, the import will treat each change in the employee number as a new record causing multiple deductions.

I didn't do the two imports. You enter everything into the batch header manually and then import into the line details. I don't think the two files are the issue. I believe the trigger of the deductions is the change of employee number. Maybe a question for the Roundtable?

Yes, I've added the question for the roundtable - thanks for the clarification.

There is perform logic for the deductions. Did you set that?

Yes. We set the perform logic according to the instructions in the document above.
