v5.2 standard. ROR change eight months ago. Converted from 4.3 recently. In 4.3 they had a couple thousand ""/"" miscellaneous items that have been converted from the SO7 table to the CI_Item table. I usually merge items that need to be deleted into a ""ZZZZDELETE"" item using the Delete and Change utility. This utility doesn't work for the ""/"" items. We would like to delete 2000 or so of the ""/"" items as we are changing some of the processes and using ""regular"" items. What is the best practice for removing miscellaneous and charge item codes?

Here's how I would do it. Perhaps someone has another better solution. I would copy the live company to a backup company. Working with the backup company I would reinitialize the CI_Item file. Then using VI, I would import using SOTAMAS90 field for field only the item records from the live company that you need. Once finished, rename CI_Item in the live company and copy over the file from the backup company.

@BillPfahnl I like the strategy and wonder if this has implications pertaining to file verification or other issues. For example, are there screen displays or reports that would generate an error because it is unable to locate the record in ci_item? If I were confident this would not create harm elsewhere, I would write a PVX utility to read ci_item and remove miscellaneous and charge items.

DSD has an enhancement for this. http://www.dsdinc.com/enhancement/imcm-im-miscellaneous-item-deletechange/

Good point @DougHiggs. Could be. But since you are allowed to manually delete a Misc Item/Charge code even if history exists for the item (no warning message), my gut feeling is that any Misc Charge History reports are not affected although I suppose the description may be missing. I would thoroughly test the reports in the backup company before copying the CI_Item file over.

@BillPfahnl I am unable to delete items if history exists.

It is good to know DSD has the utility. I wish they needed it more than once so can cost justify it. The only other option may be to live with 2000+ misc items.

@DougHiggs Dang!. What if you first purge misc item history using the utility under Common Information / Utilities? Do they need the history?

I am not sure if they need it, particularly is it can be retrieved from invoice history. I will present the options to them. I can't believe Sage 100 doesn't have a utility like DSD's as a standard feature. They probably held it back intentionally so they can roll it out with the 2017 version and then all of the users will feel they are getting something special for their maintenance.

They are definitely not going to want to remove the history for the regular inventory items. I don't see a way to delete history for ONLY miscellaneous items.

You might test the purge. Inventory has their own Item History Purge so it may only remove the misc item history.

Yep, good call. I believe you are correct Bill. The miscellaneous history is in a separate table than the regular history. Miscellaneous is in CI_ItemHistoryByPeriod and regular item history is in IM_ItemWhseHistoryByPeriod. The ""Purge Item History"" menu item is in both CI and IM utilities but remove data from different tables.

My client is telling me he tested both the CI Item History Purge and the IM Item History Purge and they both delete ALL items types... regular and miscellaneous. This sucks.
