Sage 100

v4.5 advanced user in remote city is using remote desktop to access MAS. Installed a new local printer... an OKI Microline 395 (24 pin). Printing Sales Orders (delivery tickets) on the terminal server is redirected to this local printer. Cannot find a driver that works. The OKI Microline 395 driver prints gibberish. The OKI Turbo D ML 321 (IBM) driver is pretty good but cuts off the tops of some characters. Any ideas or solutions?

Depending on the driver, you may find terminal server is still trying to apply the Remote Desktop Easy Print driver. You may wish to explore this setting to make sure the correct printer driver is being forced.

not sure if this will help but I tried this once and it worked locally. Try changing the emulation mode in the printer setup to Epson. It tends to work better

So what is the emulation on the OKI set to (oki, Epson or IBM) ??? The fact that you are printing gibberish seems to indicate that you have a mismatch of drive loaded to what the printer is set to. The owners manual (PDF) will give you some options. I have good luck with the Epson emulation

Thanks guys. The IT guys hooked up the printer and couldn't get it to work so they laid it on me. This printer is in Atlanta and I am in Arlington Heights, IL.

A southern suburb.... IT guys are so GOOD with OKI dot matix printers. Where is big louie when you need someone to bitch ""read the manual""??? I don't I have EVER had an IT guy set up an OKI correctly....

What about installing the old Generic/Text driver? It should end up ignoring MS Sans Serif or whatever font their sales order form is using. Another option is take advantage of the ML 395 driver through native printer fonts. That is first go to LM / Setup / Printer Preferences. Click on the OKI ML 395 driver. Uncheck Enable Graphics Printing and check Show Native Printer Fonts Only. Now click the drop down for Normal Font and see what your choices are (pick some 10cpi font I think). Then in Crystal do a Ctrl-A or make a big box and select all fields. Change the font to the native printer font you identified earlier.

@AlnoorCassim - Need to make note of this as a couple clients will only let go of their OKI when I pry their cold stiff fingers from the platen knob.....

@DougHiggs I've got a buddy who lives in Cumming...he could probably help you out.

@DougHiggs Tomorrow is booked and so is Friday for me. Next week I am more open. If using RDP to print through then you need to make sure that both sides match. I have seen issues if the client had all the DLL files needed to print right but the server did not or visa versa and it didn't resolve until both matched for the driver. I would also have them print the config on the printer itself and reset the printer back to factory. Depending on what you are printing out from MAS, you could change the configuration through the LM|Setup|Printer Preferences. I have spent many a days with old dot matrix getting them to work. Not always an easy fix and RDP just adds to the problem. Is this only with Sage 100 printing or any print jobs that have issues?

@ToddMartin Do you live in Cumming ? Can you get there Monday morning?

Difficult for me when I have to rely on someone on the other end of the phone to make changes to the printer and tell me what prints.

@DougHiggs I am near Perimeter Mall 400 and 285. Cumming is just north on 400.

I set these up at a client site recently. The solution is to use the generic text printer driver. Then for better alignment, select all text on form and change all to printer based font and size.
