v4.4 End user wants to allow a sales rep to enter sales orders but not be able to see the unit cost. How can I implement this? I know the current releases have role options to hide costs but that doesn't help in 4.4. I am considering using the link button in custom office to cover the secondary grid and then hide the secondary grid re-sizing button. However, that solution would cover all of the fields in the secondary grid. Does anyone have a better solution?

If all sales reps shouldn't see unit cost, uncheck ""Display Unit Cost"" under Sales Order, Setup, Sales Order Options, Line Entry.

Thank you for your input Jane. They just want the cost restricted to a couple of sales reps. All of the order entry people still need to know the cost. Good thought but they need a bit more flexibility on who can see the costs.

I was afraid of that. Can't have it be too easy!

It is a good idea though. I am checking with the client. We may be able to restrict everyone using the So option, then allow some users access to the item inquiry buttons at the top of the line detail screen to access costs if needed. This requires an extra click or two but may be a good workaround.

In customizer, you can ""hide"" fields. Choose the Sales Order pLines lower grid and try hiding the cost. Put in a screen group for sales reps.

Would masking or electrical tape on the monitor work?

@LeeGraham I forgot to mention. This is actual 4.45 SQL. You can hide detail fields in 4.4 standard and advanced but it doesn;t seem to work on SQL.

@WayneSchulz That's a fantastic idea! Similar to my advice when ""MAS is running slow"" complaints: Try tapping on the side of the monitor a few times... Sometimes they can get a bit tired and need to be waken up.

When I worked at Information Science Associates back in the early '90s we were converting many clients from UNIX/XENIX to Novell and Windows. My office partner received a support call from a client that we just installed a new network, and Windows 3.1 PC's. She was complaining that the ""foot pedal doesn't work"". We couldn't figure out what she meant so my colleague went to her office to take a look. She came back a half hour later and told me the client had the mouse on the floor and thought it was a foot pedal.. like a sewing machine.

The harder you press on the foot pedal, the faster the computer goes???

Wow Doug that beats my story (back in windows 3.x days also) Where I was on the phone with a client and told him to click on the start button. After about 10 minutes of me trying to explain where the start button was, he got totaly ticked off and said ""I'm on my hands and knees under my desk. I don't have a flashlight but THERE IS NO START BUTTON ON THIS #$%%* CUMPUTER!!!!!

I still like the one where the guy called Compaq to request a new coffee cup holder because he had broken the one on his computer.

I have two. Back in the day, there was an app that instructed ""press any key to continue"". Client called to ask where the ANY key was. And, I had a client who was proud of her floppy disk backups stuck to her file cabinet with magnets.
