v4.4 advanced.... does anyone know why a physical count variance register would have a variance amount of -42,176.41 yet the daily transaction register shows an adjustment to inventory of +4288.62? register numbers agree.

I am guessing the Variance Register uses an average/standard cost for printing but the calculation for the DTR will be based on actual costs. So I'd guess your client has FIFO/LIFO/Lot/Serial valuation methods and at least one of these is WAY out of whack. You could print the Transaction Detail Report for that date and look for some big numbers.

Good thought Beth.. I will look at the inv trans detail and see if there is something unusual.

Customer's inv valuation method is standard cost.... they changed from LIFO a couple of years ago. The variance register is using standard cost... confusing.

Solved...... Had 2 product lines in product line maintenance where the Inventory Adjustment account was the same as the Inventory account.... canceling each other out.

Physical inventory works in mysterious ways... The big question is how far off is their inventory valuation report from the general ledger accounts. It ""should"" tie..........

exactly... why bother calling me and asking what the account numbers do in product line maintenance .... just start making changes and later wonder why the GL is a mess.
