  • 1.  v3.71 to 2023.x - with payroll

For a 3.71 to 2023.x without payroll I would usually upgrade these minimum versions:

    • v3.71
    • v2017
    • v2023

I have a company that is using payroll on version 3.71 ( apparently they hand calculate payroll taxes and hand type W2 forms )

Does anyone have experience upgrading a 3.71 to current when they have payroll? Is it wise for me to make a stop at 4.5 PU8 as I have notes where Sage dev said they were most confident in the 4.5 PU8 to 2018 payroll (and ACA was added in 4.5 PU8 ). I'm curious if anyone had completed an upgrade from 3.71 that also had payroll and has any words of wisdom on what path to take on my way to 2023.x.

    TIA

    I did one in November of 2020.  Here's the progression I used: v3.71 to v4.5 then v4.5 to v6.2.

Depending on the number of employees, it might be easier to start fresh with PR.  If they were manually figuring taxes, chances are the Sage tax calculator will return a different amount.  And as I recall, Sage didn't import the history by check, just the YTD totals.  You should be able to export the employee master and then import.  Hopefully, you don't have local PR taxes.
