v2020 performance

  • 1.  v2020 performance

    Posted 03-19-2021 11:12
I am having performance issues with almost ALL my v2020 upgrades.
Both STD and ADV, I am only putting them on Windows servers 16 or 19 with 16+G depending on users.

I have tried the basics, UAC, DEP, antivirus (there are new ones Sage published), firewall ports, make sure there are no programs scanning files consistently, C/S ODBC if applicable, Disable Windows Defender via Group Policy...

Are other users experiencing the same issues?    Taking 5-10sec to go to different windows or move from one field to the next, loading data, Slow printing on STD version. I know that v2020 is taking up more recourses and now requires at least 8G rather that 4G like in the past versions.

I feel like I have tried everything on a lot of these upgrades, yet still get complaints. Does anyone have any feedback or suggestions on things to review?

Oh Erin – you are so not alone!  We've actually started putting a line in our Scope of Work documents stating that the client may notice a speed degradation with 2020.  So – the answer to your question is "Yes!"

I haven’t noticed because most of my upgrades had been to 2019. I’m just getting ready for a wave of 2020.

Does Sage have any words of wisdom?
Any guesses as to what technology changed with Sage that might cause this?

    1. Change the default printer to another physical or network printer and then test/check the performance
      1. Sage 100 Advanced and Premium looks at the default printer on the server every time a task is launched.
      2. Sage 100 Standard edition checks the workstation's default printer.
      3. Make sure all Network Printers are on-line
      4. If a Network Printer is off-line and no longer needed, remove it from Control Panel, Devices and Printers
    2. Check the path
      1. For Sage 100 Standard, Workstation Setup should be installed from a mapped drive letter path, such that the shortcut to launch Sage 100 also has the mapped drive letter path. The drive letter must be mapped to a directory above "MAS90"
      2. For Sage 100 Advanced or Premium, Workstation Setup should be installed from a UNC path, such that the shortcut to launch Sage 100 also has the UNC path. The UNC share point must be a directory above "MAS90"
    3. Check that the latest Sage Anti-Virus setting exclusions have been applied
    4. Consider temporarily disabling anti-virus and malware scans
      1. This is trickier than it should be - and may require uninstalling and rebooting the server
    5. Consider setting Sage 100 so that the shortcut always "runs as administrator"
    6. Check ping times for Advanced/Premium
      1. PING servername -l 1800 ( Note the -l is lowercase letter L )
      2. Anything over 40 ms is slow and may be cause for further investigation
    7. Turn off the Sage Product Enhancement Program
      1. Login to Sage as Administrator
      2. Select Sage Product Enhancement Program
      3. Deselect "Participate in the Program" by removing the checkmark
    8. Never run Sage over WiFi without use of RDP or Terminal Server/Citrix
      1. Customers may refer to this as "using a VPN" but the VPN does NOT act as a remote desktop
      2. Customers running solely over WIFI or the Internet with RDP will see most pronounced slowdowns in printing

Thanks Wayne,   these are all the typical things I test for also. A BIG one is to "run as admin" for practically everything, installs, opening the program to always "run as admin"  etc... ("run as admin"  always seems to fix things as well as speed performance.)

I am having those same performance issues, but with v2019. We have done the laundry list of resolutions from Sage.... opened a case and the analyst spent almost two hours and couldnt find anything. Customer is extremely frustrated and is probably moving all users to RDP. Anyone out there with other alternatives to look into

Still encountering the performance issues on the v2019 when installed in Windows Server 2019. I did a test installing v2019 in the old server, which is a Windows swrver 2012 R2 and it runs great. They are both in the same domain.....any ideas????

If you have more memory to add to the Win Server 2019 that might help.

More than the old server.  Win 2019 has a memory issue, which particularly affects Standard.  There's a post on here somewhere with a link to a technical discussion of that issue.

Are we sure this is solely a Sage 100 2020 issue? Has anyone done a Sage 100 2018 to Server 2019 and experienced the same/similar?

It might be less frequent that we are upgrading an older Sage to the latest server so perhaps some of the slowdown burden is with later Windows Server versions?

Googling casually I uncovered a few conversations of people talking about server 2019 slowdowns but I’m not sold either way.

What really gets me mad is that I opened a case with Sage 2 weeks ago...they have connected to the server over four times...and NO ONE has mentioned this issue!!!!

@Lourdes Sobrino  Do you have the same slowness if you work directly on the server?

Nope...server has always performed well.....a few users have worked with RDP and there is no issue there.  It is only when they run locally a workstation

Then it may be a networking issue, ie old cabling, switch, network card etc. etc.  Have them run a CAT 6 cable directly from the switch to the back of one of the slow workstations and see if they notice a difference in the speed of Sage 100.

@Lourdes Sobrino  If it's standard make sure you are using a mapped drive to the share.  If it's advanced or premium use a unc path to the share.  Also, if its advanced or premium make sure IT has confirmed the DNS is working properly.  Using a unc path with messed up DNS will slow down the system.

From reading some of the thread linked below, it appears that this is an issue with the File Cache Manager (FCM) in Server 2019.

This appears to be a kernel level change that Microsoft has no plans to fix in this version of Windows (at least according to the thread).

On the link below (Page 5, around mid way down), you will find a few powershell commands that revert some values back to 2016 levels. Not sure if it will make a difference, but probably worth a shot.

    https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/2225989-server-2019-network-performance?page=5&pagination=5

The good news is that this may not be Sage specific. The bad news is... oh no! Deploying 2019 might have just become an expensive ordeal.. or skip it altogether (risky when it comes to considering EOL OS support from Microsoft)

OK...after moving the Sage 2019 to the old 2016 server and having response still slow, we tested something else that is really confusing me.
I installed Sage v2019 with company ABC in Windows Server 2019.  Customer is doing the same tasks that are slow on their company and there is a good performance.  The slowness issue is only with companies that have been migrated.... Any ideas????

Wonder if it has anything to do with the number of records in ABC versus the number of records in the client dataset...

My mind went to converted system files having some sort of obscure issue.

I wonder if you took the MAS_### folder from the slow system and just copied it to the test ABC system, set up a new company code (without migrating)... whether it would still be slow.
