v2018 Payroll: Is there a way to get the pre-register reports and the register to print portrait instead of landscape?

Manual modification. You know, we went through this with the Aging when 4.10 came out, but some people never learn (of course, probably none of the programmers from 4.10 are still at Sage). Also, the Employer's Expense Summary is now landscape, too. UGH UGH UGH

At the Sage Roundtable they asked (and I asked in a thread) for a list of reports that print should be updated to print portrait so list them here please.

We are trying to work with them and have an impact. The roundtables are a two way street. It may fail, but I'd rather the failure be on their side, not ours. So which reports, thank you?

The approach we used to modify these reports is simply by changing the font as follows: Data fields are changed from Arial to Sage Reporting Column Heading fields are changed from Arial Bold to Open Sans Condensed - Bold By changing the font, you can then shrink the width of the report and change to portrait format. 3 reports are located in Company Report Folders so you have to create a Report Setting with the name Portrait (that's what we used) then go to Designer, close the template and save the new report format into the folder by Company/Form/Report Setting. You'll have to do this for each company running Payroll. These reports are: Check History Report Payroll Data Entry Audit Report Quarterly Tax Report Then there are reports in the Payroll Process (Main Menu) that just need to be replaced with the new version. We have been renaming the original reports and then copying this group of reports into the Reports folder. These reports are: Check Register Earnings Register Employer's Expense Report Labor Distribution Report Labor Distribution Report (for Job Cost) PreCheck Register Time Off Register

By the way - one of our techs changed all of the reports, put the portrait-modified reports in a reports folder that the other techs could access, and we list the portrait reports as an ""option"" in our Scope of Work for our Payroll 2018 upgrades for a lump sum dollar amount.

Everything @SueBennett said. I asked Alec Burke about it yesterday while talking to him about another issue. Interestingly, he said that they do print in portrait, and if they don't, something's wrong with the printer. Now, Alec is good, so between this and all the other crazy stuff the techs don't seem to know, I think that Sage didn't beta test enough before releasing, and I think that information isn't being shared with the support staff.

To me, big issues that affect many business partners and users (and this issue seems to be in that category) and issues that were not adequately addressed in the PAC should make it to the BPAC where there is a level of management that has the authority to do something about it. That's not going to happen in a day and a half, because they have too much they need to ""tell"" us, and we need sufficient time to have a heated discussion about the ""Advocate"" program aka ""Master VAR"" program, which is going to go forward as planned, regardless of our objections. Why can't we identify the 5 biggest issues that need to be addressed in the product and have that as an agenda item at the next BPAC? We'll call it ""What 90 Minds Wants"".

Not to stray too far from the original thread, but given the choice between a poorly-tested, rushed-to-market Payroll on framework or having legacy modules ignored forever... I'll take having to manually reorient the reports.

All reports got it. I did have a member explain a method to 'fix' the landscape issue using a font update and did share that back with Sage Dev team. The Sage Roundtables are reaching the audience that needs the feedback from our group. You may not know, but the meetings are attended by the managers and supervisors in QA, Development, Support as well as Product at Sage. They are looking at this as a new way to gain insights, valuable feedback, expose their team members to consultants and resellers and the questions that we ask and issue we face. We are making a difference. Our group doesn't need Sage sanctioned consultant reps in a preprogrammed meeting; we are our a powerful voice and will provide feedback where it counts and to whom we choose.

Just to clarify when you change the reports in the ..\Mas90\reports folder, do these reports survive upgrades or do you have to copy the revised reports to the new version?

My experience has been that those get overwritten. Anything with a Report Setting that goes inside a MAS_XXX folder is preserved.

Agree with @KathrynForadori - just did a 2016 to 2018 where I had modified the Cash Receipts Journal and that was overwritten during upgrade.

Agreed - while we re-wrote the Payroll reports in v 2018 to specifically be portrait again, several of them were overwritten by the Product Update that came out last Tuesday...
