  • 1.  v2018 move to new server client install issue

    We moved Sage 2018 Advanced to a new server over the weekend and when we remove and re-install the workstation client the install takes  15 - 20 MINUTES to start running.  Sage works after the install is done but we have about 20 computers and I'm going to die of old age waiting for them.  We have verified that the port and the programs are passed through the firewall, UAC is off, admin rights.  Has anyone run across this before?

    AV is deactivated.  I tried re-installing the client from the old server and am having the same issue so it appears to be network related.  I copied the WKSETUP folder to a thumb drive and am using that to install the client and that is working.  I appreciate the feedback, this can be moved to the regular thread now.  If I find the ultimate cause I will circle back and update the post.

    Is the computer a laptop? I guess some desktops also use WiFi. Make sure the workstation is hard wired to the network AND it's not accessing both WiFi and hard wire to network.  I think I had an issue similar to this with a customer and I think that was the culprit.

    1. Make sure it’s no installing over WiFi
    2. Try using the IP in the UNC for installation
    3. AV or Malware

    Network speed is everything on a workstation install.

    I had a client with 1GB network card that were being throttled to 100KB because they had an IP phone system that was sharing the line with the computer.  The line in from the server was first going to the phone system which only could do 100KB.  Then the line out from the phone to the computer was then reduced to 100KB.  It was taking thirty minutes to do workstation installs (I originally thought it was locking up).  

    To resolve we put switches at the desks and split one line to the phones and another to the computer.

    I had a different client where they were noticing that opening PDFs would take a minute or two for the same reasons.

    Thomas,

    I assume you mean 100mb, not 100kb, but the result is the same.

    That's why when we buy and/or sell IP Phones, we always insist on models that have a 1GB passthrough port, not 100mb.

    If using external switches like this, be very careful that they don't end up daisy chained:
