v2015 User has an outside payroll service. What is the best way to get the payroll journal entry posted to the GL and the bank rec? Transaction entry posts to the bank rec but it posts all of the detail. Is there a way to post the change in cash and not every transaction?

Do you want to do a VI or manual TJE?

Vi would be best. Why do you ask?

@JeffSchwenk They have an Excel spreadsheet with the journal entry. We could import it to General Journal enrty and it would work great but the cash chnage would not post to the bank rec. It seems to me to be easy enough to manually enter an adjustment in bank rec every two weeks but they didnt like that. They want everything automatic. So let's spend three hours trying to figure out how to automate something that takes 30 seconds every two weeks. :-)

Because you tried to do it manually and it didn't work for you so I wasn't sure how you wanted to do it.

if I can get it to work manually I will figure out to how import it.

Via Trans Journal Entry, enter the source journal for this. This will activate the format button in the upper left corner. Set your options here. There should be one for entering in total. Sorry I don't have Sage available to open so am going by fuzzy memory. I know @ThereseLogeais has it working as you desire (WAYD)

Yes I already tried that. The total is just a control total. The entry still posts every transaction to the bank rec.

    This is direct deposit then?

I believe all or almost all are direct deposit.

Sorry no thoughts at the moment. Brain has lapsed into ""vacation"" mode.

That's OK. Thanks for your input. There may not be a reasonable solution. It doesn't seem to me that manually entering a one line bank rec adjustment twice a month would hinder operations.

Could you import into BR as a check entry with GL distributions?

Doug I have 2 imports for payroll. One that is GL journal for the expenses I don't want to hit BR and then Transaction Journal for everything that I want in BR. They are linked together use the same file and based on GL account ( I think) it goes to the right import.

Great idea. I was thinking of leaving the journal entry we already have as is then creating a transaction entry for the net cash change that debits and credits cash so no effect of the GL yet posts the net change to bank rec. Thanks for the suggestion.

Do they have actual check also? If so you want that posted to BR so they can clear them .

In TJE, if you use type Deposit, I think, you have an option to post in summary to BR. So, you could fuss with the positive/negative signs and use that . It would show up in BR as a negative deposit, but at least it's in the same area.

If you are using the type Deposit and use the same check number it should post only 1 transaction to the bank rec. For example, use check # PR0315 (check date) on each line. I should only post 1 line to the bank rec.
