v2014 advanced... End user wants all tracking numb

v2014 advanced... End user wants all tracking numbers to print on the invoice. I created a subreport in the page footer using the AR_InvoiceHistoryTracking table. All of the tracking numbers now print, however, when there is a long list of tracking numbers they don't all display because the size of the page footer section is not big enough. If I make the page footer section large then when there are only 1 or 2 tracking numbers there is a lot of wasted space. Do any Crystal masters know of a trick to make the page footers variable size... or another method to display all of the tracking numbers?

Hmm. You could have two separate page footer sections with the subreport in each. You would have to add a shared variable to the subreport of the count of tracking numbers (or length? Can't remember how they are stored...) then suppress the smaller footer section if the count/length is longer than X and the opposite for the larger footer section. In the section expert, there is a Reserve Minimum Page Footer option which will save the smallest section (instead of all of them). Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't but worth a shot?

Thanks Therese. Those are good ideas that will help in the majority of the cases. They sometimes they have 50, even 75 tracking numbers. I can't reserve that space or the invoices with one or two tracking numbers look bad. Need to go with the most frequent and deal with the exceptions.

How about in the group footer instead of the page footer?

I put tracking numbers on the header. The section grows more elegantly.

I also span the tracking numbers across then down so they don't take up so many lines

@MichaelNottoli How do you do that? My subreport lists the tracking numbers one at a time in a long list.

In the details section expert, click on ""Format with Multiple Columns""; in the Layout tab set the width of the detail section and for Printing Direction select ""Across then Down

Come to think of it, they are in the workfile so you shouldn't have to use a subreport.

Thanks @MichaelNottoli I'm going to give it a try. Should help limit the reserved space.

Is the work file ONLY displaying a couple lines or is the form turning them into etc??? I have never encountered the ""etc. etc

No idea. not sure how the form would turn them into etc etc? if you enter about 15 tracking numbers, put the work file tracking number field in the page footer you will see . I will try and get an example.

While this doesn't address the printing issue, but doesn't UPS link all tracking numbers so that you only need to track one on their system

Yes. I believe if you have one number you can find the rest. I have mentioned this but the customer wants all of the tracking numbers. I give advice then do what they want.

Thanks everyone for the great comments and help. @MichaelNottoli I formatted the sub report across and then down, then added a headed section. As you mentioned, the header section grows as the data grows. You would think I would know this as the standard Sage address formulas are positioned at the very bottom of the header section. It would be nice if the page footers would do the same!

@JeffSchwenk Attached is an example of an invoice when the work file tracking number field is added to the page footer section in the standard form. There are more then 4 tracking numbers.
