Doing a test upgrade from 3.40 to 2024.  First I copied the live folder to a test folder.  I installed 4.5.8, and tried to complete the parallel migration.  When I enter the source folder, it says it does not find an installation.  I even tested using the live folder as the source and I still get the same message.  Any ideas???

If you have not done so already, I believe you will need to start from 3.71. I cannot say that is the cause of the " When I enter the source folder, it says it does not find an installation. " however I believe an upgrade from 3.x to a current Sage 100 version needs to begin from 3.71. If you find anything different please update this message so I can update my notes.

When I've seen that message I've found missing files, usually in system folders. Make sure your activate.pvx is there (remember in the old days, many backup programs ignored or quarantined that file). I'm not sure I've ever even seen a 3.40 installation. 3.50 & 3.51 are the oldest I remember (was there even a ..\Home\Lib\Keys back then?). That's the old blue screen, isn't it? Sounds like fun ;-D

3.71 to 2017 to 2024.1 are the minimum jumps I've been able to do. Your mileage may vary - especially if upgrading payroll where I think the 4.50.8 stop may be more important.

I recall having a 3.40 upgrade within the past 5 years and think i had a similar problem. I might have installed 3.71 over the top of 3.40 since I believe at 3.4 the in-place upgrade was still a thing. Whatever I did I know I took a bunch of backups as I went along.

If you tried to go 3.71 to 2024.1 you would get a message about needing to start at 4.50.8 but I think you have to be at 4.50.8 to 2017 to go to 202x or you get the "must be 4.50.8 message".

    YMMV

At what point do you just say, "Can't be done, I will import the master tables for you" and go from there??  Hope you are pricing it accordingly.  Seems to be about 21 version hoops to jump through.  They are asking a LOt.

I recall moving through version 3.61 one time because I ran into issues having to do with the change in ALE files, which I believe occurred in that version.  I don't recall if I then had to go through 3.71.  Too many years ago.

I recently did a 3.2 to 2024. I did 3.61, 3.71, 4.5.8, 2016 to 2024. You may be able to accomplish in less steps but this worked. I installed on top of 3.2 with the 3x versions and then did the parallel after that. I was unable to find conclusive info on what was the minimum versions to push through so decided to play it safe and do more rather than less.

No Payroll in that upgrade. I probably could have done it with less steps but this worked well and actually took a lot less time than I anticipated.
