Upgrading (test) a client from 3.71 to 4.50. New server Window 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1 4GB Memory 64 bit. The data conversion for the IM files alone are taking about 50 hours. The IM5 file takes forever and it is 1.5mb. They are on MAS200 and are running as a service. Has anyone else ever experienced this type of issue? We have never run into this before. Thanks!

1.5 mb is a pretty small file. I'm surprised it's taking that long. How many transactions are in the IM5 file?

1,649,593 records are in IM5xxx. I'm wondering if the PM misread the size of the file initially.

I think you meant 1.5 GB if the file has that many records.

I think a number of us have had the same issue on systems with a lot of items and inventory history. We had one at 45 hours and handled it by copying the active company to an inactive company and purging active inventory history down to about 7 years. That got us down to about 24 hours. After the active company went live, we migrated and converted the inactive company to allow lookup of really old stuff. They aren't sure they will ever need it but it's there if they do.

Thanks and yes the PM did provide an incorrect file size initially. I confirmed a couple of times but should have a 3rd time. Any other advise or shared experiences is appreciated.

We've discussed this ""inventory taking forever to convert especially with IM5"" problem a lot in relation to upgrading to 4.40. It's a conversion design issue. But I thought it was fixed as of a certain 4.50 product update (I think @JeffSchwenk was the 1st one to post that). Did you guys install PU3 prior to hitting Convert in Company Maintenance?

    Yes, PU3 was installed first.

I don't recall any of my v4.5 taking this long. I had a problem converting v4.1 (to v4.4) AP check history that had a lot of NOF vendor checks. Sage finally fixed that in v4.4. Others have had issues with IM5 transactions. I think the resolution for them was to purge the history and only hold on a year or two.

Last month I did a test upgrade from 4.30 to 4.50 PU3 where IM5 was 1.43GB (2.89 GB total in the IMxxx folder) and that portion of the conversion finished in 3 - 4 hours. I did it on my local Win 7 PC which is running a single Intel i5 2.8Ghz processor (4 cores) with 8GB RAM.

Take the conversion to a laptop with SSD drive and it will convert in a few hours.
