  • 1.  Upgrading Sage Fixed Assets Network 2019.1 to 2024

    Posted 12-05-2023 10:39

I haven't found a simple "how to guide" which explains the process of upgrading Fixed Assets - so pardon my ignorance if this is an obvious question.

The customer wants to move Sage Fixed Assets 2019.1 from Server1 to Server2 and at the same time upgrade to the latest Sage Fixed Assets.

They have a valid license and are using the Network version already.

I seem to remember at some point that the upgrade was as easy as backing up the assets from one company and restoring and converting it on the new FAS.

However, in the back of my mind, I thought this only worked on certain versions.

Can I install Fixed Assets 2024 Network to their new server and then just restore a backup from FAS 2019.1 and convert data and be done?

I just did a 2021 to 2024 and had to make a stop at each year along the way...

I've done a small number of server-move-and-one-step-upgrade-at-the-same-time (using the backup and restore method) but don't know SFA well enough to say if this technique is version specific.

Look for something like this in the upgrade KB article.  (I just follow the applicable instructions).

I saw that too but when I tried it the program told me it could only convert one year back...

On two occasions I haved one clean installation of new version and then just restored and converted the data from a backup.  No issues found.

If you were on a new server with fresh SFA install... this ability could be version specific.  As I said, I've done this a few times (...I think they were all the "Network" version of SFA).

Here is the PDF for server to server migration.  Also, when updating SFA, you have to go up one version at a time.  It is NOT like Sage where you can go up several versions at once

All of the recent SFA Upgrades I've done were 'one-shot', without needing to install each version (e.g. 2019 to 2023).  It's my understanding you can go directly from 2013 to 2023 (and I'm guessing 2024; haven't done any yet), i.e. backup then restore.
