When I try to convert the data for a certain company code in v4.5. I get the following message "zero data level module found". When I look at the active modules for this company, general ledger and common information are not activated in v3.71 . Do I need to go back to v3.71 and activate these two modules? TIA.

Just had that earlier this week.  For me I needed to rename the CUxxx company data folder before data conv (client doesn't use CRM).

Maybe some other folder for a module not in use?, although I can barely remember the 3.71 folder structure.  :)

Or maybe check sy_module for any oddities.

okay, I will check in those areas. Where do you go in 3.71 to make a backup of the company code?  I looked under company maintenance and it's not there.

@Doug Higgs I got this message to run the inventory file comparsion report when trying to migrate the company codes over from v3.71 to v4.5. Does v3.71 have a pre-migration option?

I tend to think you HAVE to have the GL module in v3.71.  This was the very first one to be converted and is a mandatory module now.  The pre migration utility didn't come into being until the inventory module was brought into framework.  I think this was in v4.4.  It might be v4.3 but I think v4.3 introduced "little" stuff (e.g. paperless module).

You do have to have GL active to upgrade past 3.71.  It can all just go to account 3200(??) if you want.  We have customer who still does the GL by sending the module journals home to Grandma who keeps a paper ledger...

You should run the pre-migration in version 4.5 prior to migrating from 3.7
