Upgraded client from v4.3 to v4.4 over the weekend. During the inventory conversion, The allow back order flag on every product line entry was flipped to yes and the allow returns flag was also changed to Y even though the client does not have the RMA module. 114 inventory items also had their flag flipped to allow back orders during the upgrade. When I try to VI the change into CI_Item, it is not allowed because the return flag is set to yes. When I try to VI the return flag to N, it returns a read only error. Has anyone encountered a similar situation? What was the resolution short of DFDM?

Found the fix on the super slow KB. Went back after 3 hours and it seems to have kicked into second gear...............

Could you post the link to the KB article here so the loop is closed and anyone searching in the future will find how you resolved this issue?

Spoke too soon. KB Article 501662 resolves the issue IF you are still in v4.3 or below. If you don't notice the issue until after you convert to v4.4, the KB doesn't apply as there is no longer an IM1XXX file to fix! Does anyone know the equivalent in v4.4 of the IM1 file and what the record location is????? PER KB 501662 - Possible Workaround: In Data File Display and Maintenance, browse to the ..\IM1xxx file (xxx = company code). For details, see How to use Data File Display and Maintenance Click the Key Scan button to locate the record. Click Edit, and enter the following: Field Number = 1 Starting Position = 214 Length = 1 Change = N Click OK. Close Data File Display and Maintenance. Reset the Back Orders option.

My bad. I misread the KB. For a few moments I thought IM1 was the control file for IM (IM0) and that changing ONE flag would allow me to VI the changes into ci_item. No such luck. EVERY record that is affected has to be manually changed. And there are two fields in each record (allow backorders and allow returns). You are SOL if you have a large number or records to fix unless you know some PVX or BOI scripting. Also, don't forget to check the product line table also as it was hosed in all four of my companies.

Can they be reset using product line maintenance?

Ended up having a PVX program written to change the flags.
