Sorry for re-activating this older thread. I know at some point someone may search it and wanted to document what worked in my situation.
No third-party enhancements - this is probably an important item to note because these steps might change if there are 3rd parties that require a different version to convert from.
If you have third-party solutions AND are migrating from a really old version such as 3.6x then you should treat the initial test migration as a separate project because I wouldn't be surprised if every third-party was a little different in how difficult/easy it was to move from version to version. You'll also likely have to beg/locate copies of the older integrations which could be harder than finding the older vanilla Sage install disks.
- The customer started at 3.6
- For some reason, I installed 3.71 over 3.6 ( I can't remember the reason but may have had issue migrating directly from 3.6 )
- From 3.71 I went 4.3 ( I think this is the last version with "convert level 3 data" available
- From here I went to 2017 ( I might have been able to go higher but when I tried to migrate directly to 2020 it gave me a "must be on 4.5 PU8" which 2017 did not ) - to be on the safe side you may have to go to 4.5 PU8 and then 2017.
- From 2017 I went to 2020
For each of these steps, I followed the standard Sage steps to migrate and convert. I think you can probably shortcut some steps by copying the files directly to company MAS_XXX folders as Carmen outlines in her notes within this thread.
