I am working on an upgrade and realize I know nothing about the "how to" for StarShip.  The install file / instructions I was provided were for upgrading some kind of service, not the Sage 100 integration piece (StarShip Link?).  Can someone give a high level overview of the upgrade process when StarShip is involved?
Sage 2017 Premium to 2020 Premium.  Same Sage server.
Will installing the StarShip upgrade (during a test migration) break anything in their current Live system?
I have the PDF instructions for the StarShip Server upgrade but it says nothing about version compatibility with Sage 100.
Where do I get the install files / instructions for the Sage 100 integration / link (which needs to be compatible with v2020 Premium)?
Customer IT is the main contact for StarShip stuff, and I'd like to understand the upgrade process so I know what to ask him.
    TIA

I have done a lot of StarShip upgrades. You first need to determine if they are using the StaShip link or the BOI interface.  Even if the StarShip link is on the Sage 100 Installed Modules Listing, the customer could still be using the BOI interface.  They StarShip LInk pushes the data into StarShip via the buttons in Shipping data Entry and the BOI interface pulls the data from Sage 100 when an order or invoice number is entered in the StarShip client.  There are settings controlled by Vtechnologies that determine whether theStarship link or the BOI interface is enabled.

You need to call Vtechnologies tech support or sales and ask if the most recent version (I believe it is 20.2.0).  I checked a week ago StarShip was NOT compatible with Sage v2020 at that time.   Attached is the StarShip link I know is compatible Sage 100 version 2019.  It may be compatible with 2020 but you need to verify.  The StarShip link program doesn't change very often and in the past has been compatible with several Sage 100 versions.

Once you verify you have the correct StarShip link installed (if not using BOI) and you have downloaded the correct, compatible server and client programs, the upgrade takes about 15 minutes!

This is excellent information Doug, thank you so much!
Do you know if installing the new StarShip Server will break their v2017 live functionality?

It shouldn't as I believe StarShip 20.2is backward compatible.  You should call Vtechnologies and double check.  I have probaly done 100 upgrades and I have never had a backward compatibility issue.  That said, I would check to be sure.  It would be a 10 second phone call: 800-462-4016 option 3

I used to manage these Starship updates myself and then I advised customers to just pay the support price for a case with Starship. I have found they are pretty good at installing and configuring the upgrades once you engage with them on a paid basis. The Starship website and information is adequate ( at best ) but never seemed to be enough to allow me to fully understand what was needed.

I believe the customer purchases a case online and then they can call V-Technologies/Starship for assistance with the upgrade. I've probably done 1/2 dozen this way and I just explain to the customer that V-Tech doesn't have the best online resources and while we could probably manage this for them that we advise they buy a support case and minimize any downtime.

I've had no pushback from customers on this provided I explain it to them up front.

I can't recall the price for these cases but think they are under $150 - https://www.vtechnologies.com/starship-professional-support-services/

Also, I usually don't test this functionality ahead of time and instead rely on V-Tech to set up during the upgrade go-live. Same with something like ScanForce who I have login and make the switch on the day of the go-live.

Thanks Wayne.  With ScanForce we get install files from them in advance so the migration / data conversion works properly.  Then they do their work on the day of the upgrade.  MAPADOC is a similar process (install before data conversion, then connect for Go Live)... I've just never dealt with StarShip before and was expecting something similar.  I really appreciate the insights.

It does not seem as though the StarShip Link affects the data migration and conversion, which was my biggest concern.  Not installing anything before I did the test migration gave me no extra errors (although we have not done any testing yet).

I am pushing the StarShip Server upgrade to customer IT (which in this case is really good, thankfully), and I've asked about compatibility / the StarShip Link v2020 install process.
