Upgrade from 3.61 to 4.50 to 2024

  • 1.  Upgrade from 3.61 to 4.50 to 2024

Did a test upgrade last week…upgraded from 3.61 to 4.50 to 2024…ALL GREAT!!! Today I come in to do the final upgrade and when doing the parallel migration from 3.61 to 4.50…I get the "The PVX object init failed" error when I open the Parallel Migration wizard.  Tried running migrate.exe with no succes..  Any clue of what could be happening.  I can run the pre-migration without issues either….

Since it worked before, my gut reaction is to reboot the server and, if still erroring, try RegCom.bat, and if it's still erroring, you may need to uninstall 2024, 4.50 and reinstall in sequence.

Just realized the version that has the issue is 4.5.8… I cannot even reinstall it… SO, I will install it again and try to migrate then

Do you have backups of the v4.5 and 2024 before the first migrations?  If so, copy then back and just run things again.  No need to uninstall / re-install (assuming Standard or Advanced).

You know the first migration worked, so resetting the target systems to what they were when it worked is my first thing to try.

If the options in the default article are not working Could this be an order of install issue.  3.61 and 4.50 installed.  Migrated and then installed 2024.  The 2024 Install is then broken something in the 4.50 migration functionality?

Hi Lulu - For the benefit of the new content library, and having run into this myself, and sorry I couldn't respond myself earlier, here is what I think was the problem. Also, your own solution of uninstalling and reinstalling was xlnt.

At the point you did the installation and workstation setup of 2024, that's when the Sage "common components" moved from:

    C:\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Sage

    to

    C:\ProgramData\Sage\Common Components

In other words, the registered location of pvxcom.exe and the component DLLs moved. So that means you when you ran 4.50 Migration Wizard for Go Live, when it ran pvxcom, it got confused with the new C:\ProgramData location. Therefore running Regcom.bat (run as admin) from the old location should fix it by pointing pvxcom and the component libraries back to the old location.

I've also seen this error on a brand new Windows Server with only 1 install of Sage 100. It turned out it didn't have all the older .NET Framework libraries installed in Windows itself despite the Sage installer saying it did.
