Upgarded client from 4.2 to 4.5 and now they are missing AR and AP history even though they are setup to retain history for 2 years. The history does exist in the older version, is my best bet just import it in?

Can you reconvert or have they been using for a while?

They have been using for too long, they noticed this about a week after we did the live upgrade

I'd copy the company code on 4.2 and convert to 4.5. They could use the copy to reference history data. If you still wanted to import, you'd be able to export from the copied company and the live one, consolidate data and re-import. When upgrading, it's a good idea to pdf and compare history reports between both versions immediately after conversion. Helps eliminate these surprises.

Two years certainly isn't a very long time. I always set my clients to 15 years. They can always purge the files but they can't recreate once they are gone. Always puzzled at how Sage decides to set the default values. Seems to be something from the early 90's that they have never bother to reconsider. IMHO, everything should be set to 99 so that the client makes an inforrmed decision as to what the number should be. Hello Sage, 10 MB network drives are no longer the norm!!!!

I have the exact same opinion as Jeff and I set all retention to the max -- although I've run into many CFO's who ""will never need that much history"" and tell me to set it to two years. After the CFO is invariably fired or leaves the next CFO questions why I only left two years of history ... hello ROR. And the circle of life begins...

Two years is really only current year and one prior, right?

@JeffSchwenk I completley agree. Unfortunatley I wasn't the one who implemented them. What I'm thinking is that they were maybe seeing 2010 and 2011 history, but are maybe only seeing 2011 and 2012 history like @alanniergarth mentioned.
